Last month JC Penney’s featured two moms and this month for Father’s Day they are featuring two dads. So what are they selling? A political agenda or clothing? Share your thoughts.

The Gay community is really popular now, just like before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

    Oh, please.

“The gay community is really popular now…”

First, that’s not true it’s just that we’re achieving some acceptance and equality. That’s a really horrible, isn’t it?

And equating it with Sodom and Gomorrah. Wow. Nothing like a ridiculous overstatement, huh?

So, Joni, are you and your church upset by this show of acceptance and equality? (And no, I am neither being sarcastic nor mocking you).

We’ll know that there really is what you characterize as acceptance and equality when we see approval of same sex marriage at the ballot box. Thus far the score is 32 – zip on that count. Telling pollsters is one thing; backing that up with the vote is another.

I like it and say “Go JC Penny”! I think we should see families of all types in our media.

If we are going to say that they are selling an agenda because there are gay couples in the ads, then we must be prepared to make the same critique when there are straight couples in the ads. What are they selling by featuring a man and a woman in an ad? A heterosexual agenda? …No? Then how can it be that a man and a man is selling an agenda?

    • Bill  On June 1, 2012 at 4:49 pm

You’ve got it right dp, a heterosexual couple being depicted in an ad is the equivalent of selling an agenda as well. It can also be said that it is the reinforcement of a societal NORM that dates back some thousands of years.

I think it’s a mistake to assume that a NORM=best just by virtue of being normative. There was a time when it was the norm to hang black people from trees. There was a time when it was the norm to ride around in cars without wearing a seatbelt or putting children in carseats. There was a time when encouraging young people to smoke cigarettes was the norm. What of those norms? We wouldn’t dream of upholding those norms as the only or best way today. And for the record, same-sex love is as ancient as any other kind.

dp please reread my statement and let me know what you understand as an indication of my assumption that NORM=better. And yes same-sex love is as ancient as any other kind but has been regarded as aberrant, that is it has never been the norm of any society throughout that long history.
