Cornell University professor calls Students “Black Bitches” should he be fired?

“It has been two months since Cornell University Africana professor Grant Farred called two of his graduate students “Black bitches,” inciting upset among students and faculty of the program over the matter. According to the “Cornell Daily Sun,” Farred invited two female students, who have not been mentioned by name, to join him at a conference on February 5 and 6 at the University or Rochester. Farred’s advisees arrived late to the event. After the panel discussion the professor thanked the grad students for attending the conference. What he said next shocked the women. “When you both walked in, I thought, ‘Who are these Black bitches?'” he told them in a low voice. “  The students were visibly upset when he made the remark and he subsequently apologized. The university has been investigating the matter, but my question is should the professor be fired?  “The remarks are certainly racist, sexist and utterly ugly. No one deserves to be addressed in such a manner, let alone two Black women graduate students in a program, like Afrikana, borne out of struggle against injustice and all forms of discrimination, Hassan wrote in an e-mail sent on April 6. “What makes the remarks more egregious is that they were [uttered] by an educator.” The Cornell Daily Sun has published an open letter with 39 alumni signatures, admonishing Farred’s statement and has criticized the school’s administration for not handling the incident with more urgency.” A couple of months ago a non-tenured professor at Towson University in Maryland referred to himself as a “nigger working on a corporate plantation.”  The Towson professor was fired for his utterance so how can Cornell continue to allow this professor to teach at the University? Tell me what you think.

He should be fired. I see no mention of his race in the article, which I am happy to note– it makes no difference in this case, because his behavior is unacceptable
of an educator. He is supposed to set an example of professionalism and restraint to the students he is molding. I’d say the same if he’d said white bitches.
Of course, students should be held accountable for similar language, at home and at school (in all grades).

I’m a undergraduate Cornell student. He won’t be fired. A key word in this discussion is “tenured.” Cornell tenured him after his first year. Despite or should I say inspite of this statement he has a brilliant mind and the University is not going to let hime go.
