Ray Rice is a Man not a Monster

How many times will the networks play the horrific video? We’ve seen it on every network for the past few days. Each time has to be another stab in the heart for Janay Rice, but her feelings are lost in the media hysteria. Ray Rice lost his job, his reputation, his endorsements, and he faces an uncertain future. Rice is no victim, but he is no monster. Rice is a man who made a terrible decision. No man ever has the right to hit a woman, but let’s not make Rice the face of domestic violence. It is ironic that some of his critics probably have also raised their hands to their woman, but fortunately for them there is no footage for the world to see. The NFL currently employs other abusers and at this point their contracts have not been nullified. The Ravens play on national television tomorrow night and the Rice conversation will continue, but the discussion needs to move in a new direction. Rice is history and it is time to let him and his family move on with their new life. It is also time to address the cadre of abusers that will suit up on Sunday. Deal with them.
