Color of Change is demanding MSNBC to fire Pat Buchanan

Pat Buchanan is the conservative in the house of liberals at MSNBC. He has been known for making controversial remarks. This past weekend he was promoting his newest book, Suicide of a Superpower on the radio show “The Political Cesspool”, the Color of Change contends the show is hosted by a white supremacist. Color of Change says
“Buchanan has just published a book which says that increasing racial diversity is a threat to this country and will mean the ‘End of White America.’ This weekend, to promote his book, he went on a white supremacist radio show…” read the “Fire Pat Buchanan” petition letter. Yesterday “Buchanan also appeared on NPR’s “The Diane Rehm Show” on Tuesday and further discussed his new book and radio show appearance on “Political Cesspool.”He defended his decision to visit the radio show and asked “Am I supposed to go and vet all the people on these shows and get the list from [Anti-Defamation League chief] Abe Foxman on what shows I can go on to?” He added, “The individual was very interested in the race issue…but I wouldn’t be on the program if somebody started calling racial or ethnic names. Or rather, I’d be on it, but I’d say that’s the last time we’re going on that one.” So what is the real issue here? Appearance on the radio show or content of the book? Buchanan has a right to write a book that some people might find objectionable. He also has a right to promote the book on any venue he chooses, but MSNBC has a right to determine if he is a good fit for the network that “Leans Forward.” so what do you think? Should Buchanan be removed?

I just read this article this morning. I signed the petition. I think it’s good for MSNBC to bring in people with opposing view points, and I actually haven’t minded most of Buchanan’s comments WHILE HE IS ON THE SHOW, but have noticed he is much more of an extreme right-winger when he goes on FOX, for example. But this stuff had definitely escaped my notice, and it’s disgusting! I am surprised, really, because again, he is amiable on MSNBC and seems to just want to raise another way of looking at things. Lo and behold he is a raging racist, lol. Should have known – that was my impression years ago, but thought he’d grown up a bit. Guess not. Yes, they need to cut him loose – he can promote those ideas elsewhere. Geez!

People who don’t know what Pat Buchanan is about have not been paying attention. Both he and his sister have never hidden their racial/social views and it is well-known that during his years in the Nixon administration as a speechwriter that he helped craft their “Southern Strategy” of using racial fear, renamed “law and order” to win rural and suburban white votes.

So why now? Why is he so offensive now? MSNBC uses him precisely because of his views. In a way he’s a straw man. A conservative so offensive to the majority of the American people that whatever he says can be written off as the rantings of a racist.

It’s not sufficient to the left to combat opposing views with what they might regard as more reasonable views. No, no the tolerant left invariably seeks to silence the offensive opposition. Why not let your enemy expose their offensive views for all to see?

      Well said.

What if Adolf had been more exposed after Mein Kampf ?

Not surprisingly, I’m tracking along with Bill. Let me just add that I’d much prefer that a racist be allowed to speak freely and frequently, so we know who they are and where they are. It is the silent racists that do the most damage. (Now, I am not calling Buchanan a racist; I am saying we allow ANY racist to speak freely and frequently. It’s better for everyone. )

As for Mr. Buchanan, I have said before that the man needs to shut his mouth. Even when what he says is the absolute truth gives all conservatives in general and OLD WHITE conservatives in particular, a bad name. I have not read his book and I’ve never heard of this show “Political Cesspool”. If MSNBC finds that Buchanan’s book does not meet their “standards” (snort, chuckle) of excellence then they are free to show him the door. He’ll sue (a requirement) and it’ll end up with him getting some money and going somewhere else.

    Should Buchanan be removed?

    No.
