Tom Brokaw is a Friend of McCain Why Is He Moderating the Debate?

It must be great to have one of your personal friends as the moderator of a debate in which you are a participant. On Tuesday night McCain will have that advantage. He counts Tom Brokaw as one of his friends. Why is this fair, but Gwen Ifil’s ability to be impartial was questioned? Could it be that Father Tom is beyond reproach? Or is it that we expect Brokaw to approach the debates as an impartial journalist, but why would we expect him to do this, and not expect the same level of professionalism from Ifil?
