Why did Ellen Sturtz heckle the first lady?

Statement from Ellen Sturz, the lesbian activist that heckled the first lady. “I lived and worked in the closet, hiding who I was in order to earn a living. I had planned to speak tonight with DNC officials but, as the First Lady was talking about our childrens’ future and ensuring that they have everything they need to live happy and productive lives, I simply couldn’t stay silent any longer. I’m looking ahead at a generation of young people who could live full, honest, and open lives with the stroke of the President’s pen, and I was hoping that the First Lady would share my concern for all of our young people.”
Sturtz was reportedly taken aback at the First Lady’s response to her heckling. Question: Is heckling a speaker ever justified?

Patricia Heaton apologizes to Sandra Fluke for Twitter rant

“Rush Limbaugh isn’t the only one saying he’s sorry. Patricia Heaton, star of The Middle, is apologizing on Twitter today for comments aimed at Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University student whom Limbaugh called a “slut” and a “prostitute” on his show last week after hearing her testify to Congress that her university’s health insurance should cover contraception for female students.
Heaton, one of Hollywood’s outspoken Republicans, jumped on Twitter and started making wisecracks, writing: “G-Gal: you’ve given yer folks great gift for Mother’s/Father’s Day! Got up in front of whole world & said I’m having tons of sex- pay 4 it!” And: “Hey G-Town: stop buying toothpaste, soap, and shampoo! You’ll save money, and no one will want to sleep with you!”* To hear this from Rush Limbaugh is sad, but not unexpected, but for a woman, Patricia Heaton to jump into it takes it to an even more disturbing level. It is fine to say you do not agree with Fluke, but to mock her is another story. It will be interesting to see if Heaton’s 140 character attack will have any long term effects on her career.

Elizabeth Warren threw out the first “woof cookie” and Scott Brown threw it back, this should be the end of story, but it is not

Wednesday night Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren took a swipe at Senator Scott Brown. A reporter prefaced his question by saying Brown posed for Playgirl to finance his college education and then he asked her how did she finance her education. She replied “I didn’t take my clothes off”. As a kid we called this a “woof cookie” now it might be called a zinger. Now when you lob a zinger you should expect a like zinger to come your way. When Scott Brown was on a local radio station they asked him about the comment and the fact that Warren said she kept her clothes on and Brown replied “Thank God.” Some women’s groups are going after Brown saying his comment hit below the belt. Well maybe it did but Warren started it. Her comment was a putdown of Brown and she should have expected a retaliation. Now Warren is not the one leading the charge against him on this issue other groups like NOW and Emily’s List are the ones making this an issue. There are times when something is a genuine issue but this does not qualify as that. If you are going to run with the big dogs you better learn how to bite back and do it without tears. Warren took a bite out of Brown and Brown simply bit back.

Toddlers, Tiaras and Hookers…oh my!

TLC Toddlers and Tiaras is a show that features young girls in beauty pageants. Not a fan, but to each its own, but this week the show crossed a line. One of the mothers dressed her young daughter up as Julia Roberts in the movie “Pretty Woman”. For those of you not familiar with the movie Roberts played a prostitute. The little girl paraded around in the costume like a girl on the “stroll”. So what can we do about this? Really nothing. Parents have a right to have their children in pageants, but is this a little more than pageant behavior? Tell me what you think.

What is Calvin Klein Advertising?

Why was this ad has been banned in Australia? This ad is supposed to be selling jeans but many in the country find the imagery disturbing. Australia’s Advertising Standards Bureau has banned the ad because they contend it suggests rape. “The ad, features model Lara Stone  and three men in various states of undress, had received more than 50 complaints as well as criticism from women’s advocates who claimed it promoted gang rape and violence, according to the paper. Calling the campaign “highly sexualized and clearly suggestive of sexual behavior,” the group has reportedly ordered the removal of three Calvin Klein billboards.” Were they correct to ban the ad? Tell me what you think.

Baltimore Sun Columnist Susan Reimer Excuses Ben Roethlisberger and Insults All Women

Today I read a column written by Susan Reimer of the Baltimore Sun that basically excuses the behavior or Pittsburgh Steeler Ben Roethlisberger. The first lines of her article set the table for her senseless logic. Reimer said “Steelers QB’s sex scandal lifts the veil on an out-of-control bar culture few in the older generation can understand.” Her contention is the young woman got very drunk and she supposedly wore a suggestive button and Roethlisberger just reacted like any other man would have reacted under similar circumstance. If you read her article you feel that he is the victim and her out of control drunkeness made him do it.  Her description of the situation is infuriating “Big Ben was celebrating his 28th birthday in a Georgia college town last month, and he got tangled up, according to officials, in a “dingy” bar bathroom with a “highly intoxicated,” 20-year-old college student who filed a sexual assault complaint against him — and then asked the authorities not to pursue it.” What the heck is tangled up?  She goes on to say ” that Mr. Roethlisberger celebrated his birthday bar-hopping with a bunch of buddies and buying shots for the women they encountered is not uncommon these days, whether you are a Super Bowl -winning quarterback or not. That a crude game of grabbing ensued with the sorority girls in the bar is also not a surprise. After all, the young woman in question was wearing a DTF (“Down to F—“) pin, which signaled her willingness to have sex, whether she really meant it or not. ” I don’t care if the young woman was wearing a bikini and a sign saying meet me at my car for a hook-up if after the man comes to a car she says no it means no. This column is an example of blame the victim. Is the young woman guiltless? No her behavior was reckless and Roethlisberger saw an opportunity and he took advantage of it. Although he was not charged he is being punished by his team and the league because while his conduct might not have been criminal it was wrong and to have a woman write a column like this is disturbing on so many levels. I have attached a link to the column so you can read it for yourself. Tell me what you think.

Hanes Finally Pulls the Plug on Charlie Sheen

Today Hanes finally decided that Charlie Sheen is not a good spokesperson for their brand. They have suspended his commercials.  Hanes had still been running his commercials with Michael Jordan even after Sheen was arrested on domestic violence charges. It was especially ironic in light of the fact that Tiger Woods who was not arrested was dropped by some of his sponsors for behavior that they deemed immoral. Sheen star of CBS Two and a Half Men was seemingly suffering no adverse consequences for his bad behavior. So it is good that Hanes finally pulled the plug on the commercials because domestic violence is no joke.

Abortion Doctor Killed in Church…Who is to Blame?

Today Dr. George Tiller was killed in church. He was serving as an usher and he was shot to death. Tiller was a vocal proponent of abortion, and he performed a number of late term abortions. This is why he was killed because of what he did. He was performing a completely legal act and he paid with his life. Whether you are for or against abortion you can not believe that what happened to the doctor was fair or just. The rhetoric on this issue tends to run high on both sides. Rational people have the ability to control their passion and some do not. Tragically today Dr. Tiller encountered someone who could not.

Miss California Took A Stand, and it Probably Cost her the Crown

Sunday night the Miss USA pageant was held. Miss California was asked if she believed gay marriage should be the law of the land? The judge that posed the question was gay blogger Perez Hilton. She responded that she believed that marriage should be between a man and a woman. What is interesting is this is the same opinion that then candidate Barack Obama expressed on the campaign trail. She did not win and she contends her answer to the question cost her the crown. Hilton has since called her “stupid” on his video blog. The fact is Hilton probably gave her a low rating after her response, but that opens up another issue. On this kind of contest should the contestant be penalized for what they think or is this a beauty pageant? If the judges are not analyzing looks why are the contestants parading around in swimsuits? Are they being judged on poise when answering a question or is it content? The beauty of America is that opposing viewpoints are tolerated, but with every action there is a reaction. The beauty contestant had a right to speak her mind and Hilton had a right to vote his conscience.
