Back in the good ole days the truth was not a subjective concept. It was bold and emphatic and you had to agree with it. Black was Black. Up was up, and down was down, but those days are gone. The truth has become a subjective concept subject to individual interpretation. I can remember watching Oprah and her saying the guest was “speaking her own truth”. What is her truth? Isn’t it just truth? We now live in the land where everyone has their own truth. Absolutes are challenged and we see this everywhere especially in our politics. We have been introduced to “alternative facts”, which are facts that conflict with the accepted proven facts. We now have the ability to watch news that affirms our opinion.
The days of Walter Cronkite are so far gone he has been replaced by Sean Hannity and Chris Matthews. Each one speaking the truth to their particular audience. So, both audiences walk away armed with their own truth and ready to defend it. How did we get here and is there any way we will ever accept one real truth?
Over the past few weeks we have seen President Trump accuse President Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower during the election. He had no evidence to support this information he tweeted to the world. This was his truth and he sent his minions and several government agencies in search of evidence to back up his truth. So far none has been uncovered, but Trump still holds fast to his truth.
So, we are left wondering where is truth and will we ever all be able to say in unison the sky is blue.

Yesterday a friend of mine asked me my opinion of the inauguration. I accept the reality of the Trump presidency but I have no intention of celebrating it. Trump won the election but this is a day for him and his supporters. Trump has already signed executive orders eliminating a program that helped first time homebuyers. He is doing what he promised and unfortunately what he promised is not going to be good for everyone. So eat, drink and be merry you won.
Today the lead off story on every network has been the Trump story, and why should this be any different than any other day. King Trump rules the airwaves. They bow and defer to his demands and when they dare to not he threatens to withdraw his presence. How did this happen? The media elite are all acting surprised but how can they be when they helped create this situation. They invited the King to be on their shows. They did not even demand his presence. His voice was enough to make them swoon. When have you seen any other presidential candidate call in to so many shows. They let him control the conversation. He would talk over the questioners and refuse to answer any questions that might really demand a reasoned, thoughtful response. He has run the show because he is true entertainment, and the ratings numbers bear him out. It’s been coming for a long time. 2016 might be remembered as the last election cycle to even bother with debates. The original premise was for voters to learn more about the candidates as they weighed their decisions, but over the years candidates seem to spend more time with their spin doctors than their policy experts. The audience now seem more interested in learning who landed the zinger or who fell prey to the “gotcha” question. Yes, I believe we are witnessing the end of an era. We live in a Snapchat world and very few people are interested in much more. We live in a world that simply wants to be entertained and Trump is entertaining. So if he is not on that stage tomorrow night there will be no show, and he candidates might be forced to actually have a debate.
