Bullies Won…Susan Rice withdraws her name for nomination

John McCain is probably crowing with glee. He suceeded at driving Susan Rice out of consideration for the nomination to be Secretary of State. McCain has been nursing his hurt from 2008 like it is still a fresh wound, and his vendetta against Rice was ongoing and unfounded. This was personal, and sadly today McCain and his band of bullies scored a victory at the expense of a qualified black woman. The irony is she had not yet been nominated but she and the president knew her confirmation would be brutal and she did what was best for the administration she stepped aside.

Susan Rice to meet with John McCain…is this a good idea?

John McCain and Lindsey Graham have been criticizing Ambassador Rice for weeks regarding the statements she made after the Benghazi attacks. Rice repeated the talking points that she had been given by the intelligence community. McCain has basically said she is unfit for her current office and definately not fit to be Secretary of State. Rice has requested a meeting with her two chief critics to discuss the Benghazi tragedy. Is this a good idea?

The Outing of Lindsey Graham?

William Gheen, head of the conservative, anti-“amnesty,” anti-illegal immigration group Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), spoke at a Greenville, S.C. Tea Party rally this weekend and called for Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to “come out of that log cabin closet. According to Gheen, being gay is “a secret that Lindsey Graham has.” This group is upset with Graham’s position on immigration. So Gheen took it upon himself to “out the senator”. It does not matter if this is true or false. It worked for the tea party crowd he was addressing and that was what he wanted. Mission accomplished. Gheen went on to praise one of the most liberal Congressman Barney Frank. He said “Barney Frank is more honest and brave than you. Politics is a brutal business, but this is unacceptable. Graham’s sexuality is none of our business, and if he is gay it is right to announce it or keep it to himself. What is disturbing about this is this is another effort to demonize someone in an effort to push an agenda. This is just another example of the us versus them approach the Republicans tried to utilize in 2008. The only thing different this time is they are doing it to one another.
