PETA Ad Bashes the Duggars…Is It Fair?

Why do we even know the Duggars? They have 19 children and they have their own reality show. Does that mean their personal choices should be subject to mocking? Evidently PETA feels it does. Their latest billboard shown above takes dead aim at the Duggar’s lifestyle. It is just the latest in PETA’s mean spirited advertising . They have taken swipes at the overweight, they have used the image of the First Lady without her permission so this is just the latest in their ill-advised strategy. The Duggars made a choice to have the reality show and by doing this they have made themselves fair game. PETA’s response: “The reproduction debate’s heating up as TLC prepares to air the fourth season of its Duggar Family hit, 19 Kids and Counting. This season, the Duggars have upped their clan size from 18 to 19, and it has some arguing yay or nay about the ‘Duggar-style’ approach to reproduction. We say, as long as Jim Bob and Michelle are able to keep a roof over their family’s head and modern-modest clothes on their backs, there’s a far more important reproductive issue at hand. So, we’re offering to run this billboard in the Duggar’s hometown of Tontitown, Arkansas, as well as in nearby Springdale and Fayetteville.”  So PETA can use this approach, but having the right to do something does not make it right.

Conservatives Complain about the President’s Choice of Condiment

The other day President Obama went to a burger joint and ordered a burger with cheddar cheese and Dijon mustard. This has come under fire by some of the conservative talking heads. Notable head Sean Hannity has jumped all over this. The question is what kind of person puts spicy mustard on a burger? This is another example of the conservatives trying to portray the president as an elitist. This is just stupid. Spicy mustard is as common as mayo these days. I have spicy mustard on my Subway sandwiches and no one has every looked at me like I was an alien when I have requested it. This is an example of Hannity’s complete disdain for our leader and he will jump on anything that the president says or does. If Obama asked for a bottle of water Hannity would say “oh is he to good for plain ole tap water”.

Why is Rick Warren Giving the Invocation at the Inauguration?

I am a little surprised that Barack Obama is giving Rick Warren such a prominent role in the upcoming inauguration. As one activist put it Warren probably didn’t even vote for Obama, but this pick symbolizes Obama’s dramatic move to the center.  What makes me uneasy is the fact that Warren lied to the American public during the campaign. Back in the summer both Obama and John McCain participated in a Faith Forum at Saddleback Church. Obama was the first one questioned and he really did not do well nor was he well received by the pro-McCain crowd. At the beginning of the forum Warren said that McCain was safely in a “cone of silence” and could not hear the questions being posed to Obama, but what we subsequently learned is that McCain was not even in the building when the forum started. He was actually on his way to the forum and it was a real possibility that he could have heard some of the questions. When McCain appeared he seemed ready for any question and in some cases he was actually answering questions prior to them being asked. It just bothered me that Warren lied when there was no reason to do so. Warren wrote the brilliant book The Purpose Driven Life. It eloquently poses the question Why are We Here? I have read it a couple of times, but I still recognize the fact that Warren is a social conservative. The real difference between him and James Dobson is Warren prefers Hawaiian shirts to three-piece suits.  His verbiage might not be a visceral but make no mistake Warren has a very conservative agenda. Generally to the victor go the spoils. I am surprised that this invitation was not extended to one of the ministers that supported Obama. Why not Kirbyjohn Caldwell of Texas?  There is an old saying “dance with the one that brought you” , Obama is seemingly courting new dance partners and ignoring the one’s that worked for him when Warren and the crew campaigned against him. I learned in Girls Scouts “make new friend and keep the old, one is silver and the other is gold”. This simple premise seems lost on the president-elect and that is very sad.

James Dobson Has no Love for Barack Obama

The Obama campaign continues to reach out to evangelicals, but the fact is they have no intention of reaching back. The evangelicals might not love John McCain, but judging from James Dobson’s harsh assessment of Barack Obama it is safe to say he hates him.  Dobson said “I think he’s deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology,” He went on to say . “… He is dragging biblical understanding through the gutter.” Focus on the Family is a conservative group and they are not going to support Barack Obama under any set of circumstances, and by courting them it only gives them an opportunity to direct their unbridled criticism at the Senator. James Dobson has even said he might sit this presidential election out so the Obama team need to spend their time on fertile ground not on futile efforts.
