NFL player was being bullied you have got to be kidding

When I first heard that an NFL player was claiming to be the victim of bullying I must admit that I laughed. The thought of one of these huge mountain men being the victim of bullying seemed ridiculous, but the laughing stopped when I started reading the facts. Miami Dolphin Jonathan Martin claims his veteran teammate Richie Incognito has been brutally harassing him. The harassment has included racial epithets, threats of murder and threats to family members. The behavior went way beyond rookie hazing. The behavior seems almost criminal, but the big question for me is how did this terrorism go on without management’s knowledge? The Miami Dolphins are standing around looking stunned but they know what goes on in their own locker room. Bad behavior is an accepted part of professional sports. Richie Incognito was a leader in the locker room and he had power sanctioned by the team and he abused that power when he allegedly abused Martin. What makes this story different is it has gone from being an ESPN story to being a CNN story. Sure now there will be an investigation because we know about it. Martin left the team last week because he was done with it but he did not say why. Martin feared if he outed the team he might not be able to get on another NFL team. He was content to be silent until the Miami Dolphins dismissed the suggestion that there was something amiss in the team locker room. Martin’s agent produced voicemails that may be the thing that substantiates Martin’s claim. The sad thing is that NFL players around the league see this situation differently. Some thing Incognito crossed the line and other simply think this is normal locker room high jinks. It will be interesting to see if Martin finds another team. The word is the Miami Dolphins are cutting their ties with Incognito, but how will martin fare some will see him as a whiner, a snitch, not a team player and being a part of a team is why Martin suffered in silence.

Did the shooting at Baltimore County School Perry Hall HS stem from Facebook threat?

The first day of school is supposed to be filled with hope. It offers students and teachers a new beginning, but not today. I was on Twitter and I saw Baltimore County was trending topic and I learned that there had been a shooting at Perry Hall High School. Some have speculated that the shooting stemmed from a bullying incident, but this is an evolving story, but it is a sad way to start a new year of school.

Can We Really Stop Bullying?

The White House will host a forum on Thursday to address bullying. We have heard a lot of horrific stories about children who have been bullied. Bullying is indeed a problem and 21st century bullying is alot different from back in the day, but can we actually eradicate it? No, we can’t. Unless we are going to provide 24/7 security to every child there will be a time when a child is vulnerable, and children will have to learn coping mechanisms. We had to do this to survive, and our children are going to have to do likewise.

Bullies Force 14 Year Old Boy to Get Offensive Tattoo

A fourteen year old boy who had been bullied by four older young men was forced to be tattooed with an offensive message. The New Hampshire boy was enticed to a Concord home and there he was detained by the four young men. They told him if he tried to flee they would beat him up but if he was tattooed they would leave him alone. The victim had learning disabilities and self-esteem issues. They tattooed him on the buttocks with the image of a penis and the word “poop d**k”. This incident came to the attention of authorities when the culprits started circulating the images via cell phone. Police have arrested the four suspects, Donald Wyman, 20, Ryan Fisk, 19, Travis Johnston, 18, and Blake VanNest, 18. A fifth attacker, who is 15, is also expected to be charged. This morning on the Today Show Travis Johnston appeared and said he wished he had not been involved, but his remorse seemed to relate more to his own criminal act than to what he and his cohorts had done to the victim. What they did was horrific and they described it as a prank gone bad, but this was no prank this was a crime. Far too often the vulnerable are harassed and there are no consequences, but there will be punishment for this terrible crime because bullying is no joke.
