Zimmerman juror B37 tells Anderson Cooper that she thinks Zimmerman has learned his lesson…really?

Just tuned into Anderson Cooper and Juror 37B from the Zimmerman case is speaking out. She told Anderson that they never considered race when evaluating the facts of the case. Cooper asked her if she would be comfortable having Zimmerman as a neighborhood watchmand in her neighborhood. She hesitated and said only if he did not go too far. I would think killing an unarmed teen would fall within the realm of too far, but she also went on to say that she thinks Zimmerman has learned his lesson. We can only pray he has.

If Anderson Cooper is covering a real war how does he have time for a Twitter war?

Anderson Cooper engaged in a Twitter war when one of his followers questioned the fairness of his coverage of the current Middle east crisis. He went as far as to review the followere history in order to zing her, but my question is if he has the time to have a Twitter hissy fit with a follower is he really acting as a serious journalist? Read the linked story and share your thoughts.

Is Anderson Cooper a talk show host or a journalist?

Yesterday I watched Anderson Cooper Live. Cooper is in his second season of hosting a daytime talk show. Prior to joining the daytime chatfest Cooper worked for CNN and CBS 60 Minutes. He still works for both news organizations. Cooper has covered and continues to cover hard news stories. He is a respected journalist. Earlier this year Cooper announced to the world that he is gay. This had been rumored for years, but Cooper affirmed it in a very quiet way. He did not hype it on his daytime show, but I remember after he affirmed it the announcement became a top topic for discussion on daytime television. Star Jones of NBC The Professionals said that the announcement was in fact a rating ploy designed to help the ratings for Cooper’s struggling show. Jones a veteran of daytime television made this assertion based on her years of being on daytime television. That was months ago, but yesterday Cooper decided to take on Jones. Andy Cohen, one of Cooper’s best friends was Cooper’s guest co host yesterday and they decided to take on Jones. Cooper took umbrage to Jones assertion that the announcement was a ratings ploy and he went on to throw a little shade on Jones. He talked about her pre-wedding hijinx when she was one of the co hosts of ABC The View. He mentioned the fact that she promoted items on the show so that she could receive free stuff for her wedding, and how she had gastric bypass and forced her fellow co hosts to lie about it. All of these things might be true about Jones, but why would Cooper decide to get involved in a daytime feud? This is the kind of back and forth that is a hallmark of daytime television, but is this the kind of back and forth that a journalist wants to engage in? Does it diminish Cooper’s status to get into a catfight with Jones? A journalist delivers the news to their audience whereas a talk show host tries to make the news. The question is can Cooper actually do both? Share your thoughts.

CBS Bob Schieffer Says Trump is Peddling Racism

CBS veteran reporter Bob Schieffer is a southern gentleman who has lived through the era of segregation. On yesterday’s CBS News broadcast he accused Donald Trump of “peddling racism”.  This was a pivotal momemt. Far too often when black people call out racism it is dismissed. Some say oh you are too sensitive, but it is encouraging to see veteran journalists like Schieffer take a stand and call this lunancy what it really is.

Lara Logan Sexually Assaulted in Egypt…should she have been there?

Tonight we heard that Lara Logan was sexually assaulted while covering the Egyptian uprising. She got separated from her crew and was attacked by some Egyptian men. She was rescued by soldiers and some Egyptian women. So the question is should she have even been there? Men and women are equal, but Egypt was a powder keg and it seemed unwise to have female journalist mixing with the crowd. Anderson Cooper was attacked twice before he finally left the scene. Should Logan have been there, and are there scenarios that women journalists simply should not cover? Tell me what you think.

Note to American Journalists: If You See someone Riding Toward You on a Camel it is time to come home

Today we watched the Cairo protest dissolve into chaos. Yesterday we saw jublilant pro-democracy protesters, and today we saw opposition forces doing what ever was necessary to disperse the crowd. NBC Lester Holt said “just showing a camera can make you a target.” CNN Anderson Cooper said rocks were being thrown at Him and his crew. I was amazed to see men on camels riding into the crowd. It seems like it is time for the American journalists to do what other Americans are doing and that is to get out of Cairo. There are other safer means of getting a story. This is a big story but it is time for American Journalists to pack up their cameras and go.

CNN Anderson Cooper roughed up by Egyptian Mob…are reporters too close to the action?

(Source- Washington Post)

CAIRO — “Journalists covering protests in Cairo, including CNN’s Anderson Cooper and two Associated Press correspondents, have been roughed up in the crowd. Cooper says he and his crew were attacked by supporters of President Hosni Mubarak on Wednesday. CNN later said no one was seriously hurt. Two Associated Press correspondents and several other journalists were roughed up during gatherings of Mubarak supporters. European papers reported that a Belgian journalist was also beaten, detained and accused of spying by unidentified people in civilian clothes. State TV reported Tuesday night that foreigners were caught distributing anti-Mubarak leaflets, apparently trying to depict the movement as foreign-fueled.” Over the past few days we have watched what has benn going on in Egypt. The crowd is demanding that the president step down. Each day the crowd has grown and when you view it you wonder if the American reporters will be safe. The thing about a mob is you never really know what they will do and what will set them off. Is the need to get the story standing in the way of common sense. Tell me what you think. Are reporters too close to the action.

Dr. Laura Apologizes for Using N-Word on Her Show…Should We Accept it?

“Talk radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger has issued an apology for saying the N-word several times in an on-air conversation with a caller that she said was “hypersensitive” to racism. Schlessinger said on her website Wednesday that she was wrong in using the word for what she called an attempt to make a philosophical point. I articulated the N-word all the way out — more than one time,” Schlessinger said in comments from the opening of her radio show that she posted on her site. “And that was wrong. I’ll say it again — that was wrong.” Keep in mind she used the word 11 times and even defended the use of the word by saying black comics use it all the time. So should we accept her apology or should we encourage advertisers not to buy ads on her show? If the word is unacceptable which it is why do we laugh when a black comic says it and pick up a picket sign when a white person dares to say it? Tell me what you think.
