True greatness is when your life matters beyond people who share your DNA. First Lady Michelle Obama is one of those people. The Meaning Of Michelle features 16 writers sharing how her journey has impacted their own journeys. This anthology was written by people from all walks of life. Writers include Ava Duvernay of Selma and Queen Sugar fame, noted chef Marcus Samuelsson and New York First Lady Chirlane McCray. The First Lady Obama brought strength and grace to the White House and she refused to bow down to those who tried to pigeon hole her into any tired stereotypes. She never forgot her roots and she always kept it real. So many of the essays share this common thread and this book is a love song to a woman who means so much to so many. We will miss Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama, but we can pick up this book and remember the woman who took a little of the Southside of Chicago to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and made it work.
