What good did Meryl Streep’s Golden Globe speech do?

Last night while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille award Meryl Streep took the opportunity to lash out at President-elect Donald Trump. She expressed how appalled she was when she saw him mock a disabled reporter. This was a reprehensible act that happened during the election period. Trump was elected despite that act and on January 20th he will be sworn in as the 45th President. So what do we do now? Do we benefit when we recite Trump’s election antics? No we don’t we need a strategy to survive a Trump presidency and a strategy to ensure that he serves one term. We don’t need anymore speeches telling us he is unqualified to serve. Trump clapped back at Streep and called her “overrated” which is not true, but Trump needs to have the last word. In 2018 we can start the process of change and it is going to take a lot more than speeches among the privileged to truly make a change.

Meryl Streep’s speech did a tremendous amount of good, for the Republican Party that is. Her rendition of calling half of the nation deplorables will have much the same effect as Hillary Clinton’s. Those on the political left just seem totally unable to grasp the concept that not everyone embraces the same values as they do. Every time they insult those of us on the political right it only serves to energize us to more vigorously reject them and everything they represent. I only hope they continue to misread where much of they nation is. It would be very useful for them to learn to be tolerant enough to establish dialogue with those with whom they disagree with rather than ridiculing them and shaming them into silence. It could serve to provide them enough awareness of their opposition that they won’t get blind sided the way the did in the presidential election.
