Donald Trump in Detroit…better late, late than never

So Donald Trump is in a black church this morning. He is talking love and harmony among the races. He is soft spoken and polite. He is bordering on being likeable, he has reminded the crowd that the Republican party is the party of Abraham Lincoln, but would Lincoln recognize the party or the candidate. I think not. Let us not get caught up in the soft talk of this Saturday and forget the words said by this candidate over the past year and half.

In your August 19th post you lamented how Republicans ignored the black vote and now you’re complaining about Trump’s appealing for it. The truth is you don’t like Donald Trump, which is your right, but you really don’t need to offer faux excuses. As long as he is on the Republican ticket you will find him unacceptable as a presidential candidate. I suspect Jesus Christ would be confronted by the same challenge if he were to run for office as a Republican.

Many black Democrats seem to have a literally terminal case of Stockholm Syndrome. The plantation ain’t perfect but it appears to be comfortable; I suppose because it is familiar to so many.

To his credit, he didn’t go there and pander. He didn’t promise the moon and the stars. He also didn’t tell the crowd that he “downt feel noways tyred”. Of course, he won’t get any recognition for his outreach. The media won’t mention his standing ovation. They DID note the handful of protesters outside. Guess some things never change.
