Pam Oliver will return to NFL Fox next season, she had the courage to take a step back and move forward

Last summer I read an article in Essence detailing how Pam Oliver was completing her last year on the sidelines for Fax NFL. She has been paired with Troy Aikmen and Joe Buck for years, but this year she was replaced by Erin Andrews. Oliver shared her hurt and disappointment but she worked her last year with another team and she impressed the suits at Fox. She gave it her all. She is an example that we should all follow. Yes there will be disappointment but to allow disappointment to effect your professionalism is career suicide. Oliver just signed a two year contract and she will continue providing sideline commentary for the network. Read the linked story and share your thoughts.

I’m glad to see how professionally Oliver handled this situation. I think it provides a wonderful example for other blacks who occupy high profile positions in highly competitive professions. As I read the article I was not disappointed in my expectation that “some questioned the racial and ageist implications of the move at the time”, as if the FOX executives were unaware of her race initially. Most business decisions are not at all personal and the best way to confront those with which we don’t agree is with outstanding performance.
