He’s only 52. A better strategy for him would be to take over his mother’s boss’s seat (Sen Mikulski) for 6 years. then use the Senate seat as a launching pad. He’ll still be quite young….

O’Malley probably has a better chance of winning the presidency than a seat as U.S. Senator from Maryland as slim as that would be. His challenge to winning the senate seat is that it requires votes from the very same voters who repudiated his dismal performance as governor by electing a Republican governor to succeed him. So he is a well known and not well regarded commodity in the state.

On the national stage where his poor performance is not common knowledge he’ll receive broad protection from the left wing mainstream media so there he’ll have a better chance of using his charm and charisma on uninformed, unwitting voters. We certainly have seen this before. I suspect this is part of the calculus in O’Malley’s decision to eschew pursuit of the senate seat which certainly would be a more logical progression.
