Mitzi Miller steps down as Editor in Chief of Ebony Magazine…what’s next for the magazine?

Mitzi Miller resigned from her position at Ebony magazine today. She says she will be pursuing other opportunities. Ebony is a magazine in flux. Recently they have been attempting to sell famous photographs from their archives. This is being done in an attempt to raise money. Now the editor steps down. What’s next? Jet went from a weekly magazine to web based content to nothing. One wonders will Ebony experience a similar fate.

Thanks for the info, though I hope not, I would like to think our magazines would multiply in number.

Ebony Magazine has a sentimental meaning to “us”. We want it to do well and continue to be a voice for the community, but they have to do what all magazines do and that is fight the battle of staying relevant in a 24 hour news cycle. I don’t have ANY hardcopy subscriptions. I do read American CurrentSee every week (Thanks for the recommendation EM!) and although sometimes I do not agree I find it to be good content and worth supporting. Should they ask for subscriptions, I would strongly consider it.

Ebony may have to go the way of digital subscriptions so that people can whip out their iPads and read the stories they’ve read for so long. I’d hate to see them go, but they have to adapt to survive in this arena.
