Sarah Palin compares Federal Debt to Slavery…not the same

So tired of people comparing things to slavery. Unhappy athletes say they feel like slaves when they can not re-negogiate their contracts. Entertainers also are guilty of this and so are over the top political performers like Sarah Palin. You can’t compare anything that we go through today to slavery. Slavery was an American tragedy and it should not be used as a punchline or an exclamation point for any political political diatribe.

Sarah Palin is such an idiot she doesn’t deserve any attention.

Now there’s a very thoughtful comment.

Slavery was indeed an American tragedy. And it was an Egyptian tragedy, a medieval European tragedy, an Asian tragedy and let me not forget the African tragedy where likely my ancestors were sold into slavery to Europeans. And I might point out that it still exists today in African nations.

I think black folks in America might be well served to recognize that we are not the only humans on the planet who have endured the ravages of slavery and relinquish the victim status that we associate with it. And to Sarah Palin’s point, she is absolutely right. Throughout history there has been the phenomenon known as debt slavery. And in some situations it has been it has been as onerous as what Africans who were enslaved in America endured. And if this country continues on its current fiscal path, our grandchildren if not children will be debt slaves as a result.
