When Tavis Smiley speaks who listens?

This morning Tavis Smiley was one of the guests on Meet the Press. When asked about the president stepping up and speaking on the Trayvon Martin case and race related issues Smiley contended he was “pushed” to make a statement. He went on to say the president had led from behind on a number of issues including race. The problem with Smiley’s observation is that he never sees anything the president does as enough. Smiley has carried a grudge against this president since the first election, and over the first term and now into the second he has become more entrenched in his distate for President Obama. I was on Twitter a little while ago and #Tavis Weeps was a trending topic. Smiley chose this road, and sadly it is a lonely one when he sits in the company of a cast of supporters. Smiley has the right to speak his own truth but the real question is who is listening?

Imagine that, Smiley having the temerity to deviate from the cast of supporters, as you call them. Imagine a black man having a disparate point of view particularly on issues involving race and Obama. That likely is a foreign concept to the followers who dare not veer from the herd. Oh well, as you put, Smiley chose this road. Poor Smiley.

If I knew who the hell this Tavis Smiley was, I’d comment. But I don’t, so I won’t.
