500 Homicides in Chicago this year and the year’s not over

FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS: Chicago has logged its 500th homicide of 2012. The last time the city reached the 500-homicide mark was in 2008, when the year ended with 512 killings. Last year, city records show Chicago had 435 homicides. On Thursday, officials with the Chicago Police Department said the city was one homicide away from the 500 mark. Hours later, a 40-year-old man was fatally shot in the Austin neighborhood on the city’s West Side. Police say Nathaniel Jackson was found on the sidewalk outside a convenience store with a gunshot wound to the head late Thursday. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office says Jackson was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital early Friday. Jackson’s death remains under investigation. No arrests have been made.

Nothing can be done about it. Why? Because I hate to say it, but these 500 folks are deemed unimportant. Only when tragedy falls at the door of the affluent and important people do we give notice. That’s when conversation takes place, and things get done…. Hopefully. Because Lord knows SOMETHING has got to give. Not sure that’s gonna happen, though.

Let me see….some of the most STRINGENT gun control laws in America, keeping law-abiding citizens from owning firearms, and the HIGHEST murder rate in the nation. I guess they just need to add MORE gun laws and everything will be all right.

REALITY CHECK AMERICA!!! This is grade-A proof that “gun control” does not work. Criminals are not affected by laws that they do not follow! This is a multi-faceted problem, and gun grabbing ISN’T the answer! This is a complex issue that needs sophisticated solutions.

Wow! I hate to think of how many homicides there would have been if handguns were legal there.

Right, Bill. Good thing we have those invisible city limits to keep guns from getting into the city.

You’re right about those city limits. But if guns are illegal there why would anyone breach the city limits with them? Could it be that criminal by definition don’t care about the laws.
