Dick Clark dead at 82

Dick Clark died today of a heart attack. If you are of a certain age you will remember him as the affable host of American Bandstand. It was a Saturday ritual to watch his show. He showcased a variety of groups on his show. He suffered a stroke in 2004 and after that we only saw him on the ABC New Year’s Eve shows where he was only a shadow of his former self. RIP Dick clark.

I am surprised that you failed to mention that in 1956 when Dick Clark took over as the host of American Bandstand, since so much of the music was performed by black artists, he insisted on racially integrating the show.

Since you seem only capable of viewing things from a race/color perspective, I would have thought this would be a point you’d emphasize.

I don’t make everything about race. This is a place for discussion I trust that is what you want to do.

Although I don’t agree with your assessment of the author of this blog, I’m glad you brought attention to a significant part of Dick Clark’s legacy that often goes unmentioned.

This saddens me. I grew up watching American Bandstand on Saturday afternoons. I have fond memories of seeing Madonna and Prince who were just starting out at the time. They went on and became mega stars and Dick Clark introduced them to me and, I’m sure, many other music fans.
