Is MTV Skins Kiddie Porn?

MTV is known for pushing the envelope. Jersey Shore showcases the antics of unruly wild young people, but they are adults. MTV Skins is a scripted show that showcases the antics of kids. Some of the actors are underage and MTV is taking the heat for showing children in sexually explicit scenarios.  Some sponsors like Taco Bell have pulled their advertising from the show. The show starts with a parental warning, but is this enough? Tell me what you think.

Wow, what a horrible concept for a show.. That clip was disgusting to me, to see teens behaving like that and glorifying those topics. Congratulations MTV on yet another show that couldn’t be further from what teens need to be feeding their minds with. I guess growing up on shows like the Facts of Life, Full House, Cosby Show, etc., makes me aware of how far TV has come (and gone) and to me it’s really sad. I have a 1 year old daughter and am scared to see what TV shows will be airing when she’s a teen. And for the ones who argue, “well just don’t turn your TV to that or let your child watch it”, I definitely won’t feed her mind with that, but it’s just sad to know TV producers feel that it’s fine.

MTV has completely lost me. I’m sure they are a hit with their target audience, but the days when I would tune in to watch MTV pump out video after video of the latest hits is long gone. This show does not need an audience; it needs a re-write to make it worth watching.
