Is it Wrong for Ochocinco to Prefer White Women?

Ochocinco is VH1 newest Flava Flav. He is supposedly looking for his soul mate, but Wendy Williams questioned why there are so few soul sisters in his harem. He says he likes everyone and he is entitled to choose the women he prefers. Some black women are offended that he does not seem to love the sisters. Is this a problem or is this simply another tacky reality show designed to simply get viewers? Tell me what you think.

Some of us are old enough to remember when many states had laws forbidding interracial marriage, which the US Supreme Court struck down in 1970 in Loving v. Virginia. There is only one good reason for a man and a woman to get together: their mutual desire, love, and respect for each other. Tell me you are doing it for that reason and that reason alone, and it isn’t anyone else’s business. But if you doing it for show, or prove something, then it’s just another case of exploitation under nicer, more acceptable words.

Chad is entitled to date and wed whomever he chooses. Conversely, black women are free to date and wed whomever they choose. This is an old, tired battle. Sadly enough, the wealthier the brotha is, the more black women resent him dating outside the race.

I think everyone has a type, and there’s no shame or anything wrong in that. Personally, I like geeks. My husband fits the bill. Big time. If one of the things Chad likes is white women, let it be. It’s his choice.

I do take isse with Elogram’s “brotha” line. He seems to be putting all black women in a single category of women who are ok with inter-racial dating unless the black person in that relationship is a rich male. Hate to break it to you, but it’s not so -excuse the pun- black and white. There are people of all colors who approve of inter-racial dating, and people of all colors who do NOT approve of inter-racial dating. Grouping all black women together in one lump of how they “resent” something is hopelessly out of touch.

Marney you are correct. That should read “some black women”. I did not intend to stereotype any particular group. The spectrum of approval/disapproval covers all people of all backgrounds, but I my experience has been that the most resistance to black male/non-black female couples from black women. It is an old, tired battle.

THe comment he made when TMZ asked him why he did not want Black girls on the show is very telling.
(He did say that it was because he was a man of class.)
      How insulting is that???

I think the problem is not the end result but how you get there in these cases. People can love whomever they choose. However, I think it is a problem if your decision-making is based on your own self-hatred. Then the decision is really about that and not about love.

Of course we do not know Ochocinco, but if he is choosing women of races other than his own because he believes Black women are less beautiful or something, than he is really rejecting himself and I think that is a huge problem.

It’s not entirely his fault because we are sent these crazy messages through media every single day, but it creates a variety of problems for many.

He fired the 5 Blac girls the producers chose and after the begged him to add a few he reluctantly chose a few who were working on the set. When asked by TMZ why no Black girls he said,”Well, I am a man of class and distinction” That is an insult to Black women. This is just a feke reality show and to go to such extent to be seen with non-Black women is a sign of self-hate or sell out marketing. How does his 12 year old daughter feel about he dad making this insulting remark to the world. How may this affect her self -esteem. His response to TMZ aired a few weeks ago says it all !!
