What did Sarah Ferguson Do that Was so Wrong?

Sarah Ferguson got caught selling influence. She is the former wife of Prince Andrew and the former daughter-in-law of the Queen of England. She has embarrassed herself and the royal family. She was trading access to the royal family for cash. She arrived in the United States today and issued a statement that said she had a “lapse injudgment.” Give me a break. She simply got caught and now she knows she has to make an attempt to repair the damage, but I would ask what is the difference between what she did and what lobbyist do everyday? Lobbyists are in Washington to get government to look favorable on whatever they are pushing at the moment, and if they don’t spread around money, gifts and trips they know they will not get business or access. So I don’t think we are in the position to tar and feather the former royal because she was simply exploiting her resource and although it might have been in poor taste it was not criminal. Ferguson was simply acting as a lobbyist for her own cause–herself.

Sarah was not “acting as a lobbyist for her own cause–herself.” as you put it, she was betraying her family fro monetary gains. Your comparison of her action to that of the US lobbyists can not be more wrong, as much as we may not like it, lobbyists are doing a legitimate job that is permitted in the constitution; Sarah was using her two daughter, her ex-husband (with whom still exist a friendly relationship) and her office for profit.
I am not particularly interested in this issue I am just trying to react to you justification of her action both on you blog and on the BBC radio.

Please read what I wrote. I do not excuse what she did. She betrayed the trust of her family and that is something she will probably never get back. I did not say Ferguson was a lobbist. she was influence peddling and that is done veryday. that was my point on the blog and on the show.

My English Grandmother said she was trash. And yes, I agree: She got caught and that’s all she’s sorry about. She did indeed lobby for herself.
