Abortion Doctor Killed in Church…Who is to Blame?

Today Dr. George Tiller was killed in church. He was serving as an usher and he was shot to death. Tiller was a vocal proponent of abortion, and he performed a number of late term abortions. This is why he was killed because of what he did. He was performing a completely legal act and he paid with his life. Whether you are for or against abortion you can not believe that what happened to the doctor was fair or just. The rhetoric on this issue tends to run high on both sides. Rational people have the ability to control their passion and some do not. Tragically today Dr. Tiller encountered someone who could not.

It is very sad that there are so many crazy religious people out there. I think the Church needs to stand down on this issue. God is not against Abortion. Life begins after birth not before. As in Gods message about First is Last and Last is First. It means that Birth is Last. First is Last means that you haven’t been born yet and a number of you are not going to be born in Heaven. Does that make God an abortionist?

This previous comment is just so, well, where do I begin? Melanie, what do you mean “so many crazy religious people”? This was not an action of the Church. All credible anti-abortion advocates have loudly denounced the actions of the killer, and I add my voice to it. This is the first such act in TWELVE YEARS. that does not support the existence of “so many crazy religious people”.

Secondly, when you try quoting the Bible out of context, you get into trouble. Matt 19 versus 29 and 30 state

“And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.”

This clearly has NOTHING to do with abortion or when life (on earth OR in Heaven) begins. The Bible clearly states that life begins in the womb. A quick search of any decent Bible online reference will show the same 30 references I’m looking at right now that strongly support life IN THE WOMB. The exact time at which life begins in the womb is beyond my (and the president’s) paygrade. But it does begin in the womb. Having said that, I do not support killing doctors who perform abortions. That is not the way. Demand reduction is the way to deal with this, stressing birth control for prevention, and birth and adoption for those too stupid to use a condom or another form of birth control. (I know, I know, someone will pipe up about rape and incest, but the vast majority of abortions are for post conception birth control.)
