The book was supposed to be about the working poor, but it refered to Jesus as a “wine guzzling vagrant and a precocious socialist”. Aimee Taylor of New Hampshire pulled her son out of the school after she complained about the book to the school officials and her concerns were not regarded. The book Nickel & Dimed is required reading but should it be? Does the teacher have the sole right to select required text or should the parents concerns be factored in the equation? Or should the parents simply tell the child this is not what we believe you can read it, but still hold on to your core principles? Tell me what you think.
