By now we have all heard Charles Ramsey’s account of helping free a Cleveland woman who was held captive for 10 years. Ramsey gave a colorful account of the incident, and that account has been autotuned. Listen and share your thoughts.
It was at Mason Temple COGIC in Memphis, Tennessee 45 years ago when the preacher who changed America delivered his last speech. He talked about the state of affairs as they existed, but he also talked about the great promise of America that he saw in the future. So often when great men die we hear others co-opt the memory. They make statements declaring if King had live he would have supported this or that. The reality is they don’t know what he would have supported. They determine what he would have thought by their own evolution and the reality is their statements are based more on their own opinion than his. What I would like to know is if King would recognize us? In the 1960′s our issues were clear issues that had no shades of gray. Segregation was wrong. Paying Memphis sanitation workers next to nothing was wrong, but now our issues are no longer unifying. Our issues are no longer simply race related. Over the past 45 years we have seen many prosper and never look back. A life of service seems to be reserved for the ministry. We no longer have dreamcasters or truly selfless visionaries. We have those who pander to the poor, exploit issues or simply go from issue to issue hat in hand. When MLK Jr. died the mold was broken, and I am afraid that if he saw us now there would be pride mixed with disappointment. Share your thoughts.
George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin last year. Zimmerman’s brother Robert went on Twitter over the weekend and compared Martin to the George babykillers. His contention is that all black teens are inherently scary and that is why his brother killed Martin. What he fails to acknowledge is his brother is alive. Read the linked story for all the details and share your thoughts. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2013/03/25/1768541/george-zimmermans-brother-black-teens-are-killers/
Jmyha Rickman had a tantrum at school. She has had tantrums before but this time the police were called to the school. by her family’s account she had her hands and her feet cuffed and she was taken to jail, but did Rickman exhibit bad behavior or criminal behavior? Should her parents have been called prior to law enforcement? What do you think?
A couple of weeks ago Fantasia Barrino had a fit over a photo Jet magazine used of her on their cover. The photo Jet chose was over 10 years old. Barrino was so mad that she took to Instagram to show her dismay. Jet issued an apology which was written by the Editor in chief Mitzi Miller. Miller took to Facebook to voice her displeasure with Barrino’s behavior. Miller has come under fire for making the following remark “The fact that I wasted an hour of my workday writing a press release to address an issue created by a person who cannot even read it is just… #whyiwannaBahousewife.” At some point people have got to realize that Facebook is not a diary and that things written and posted can and will be used against you. This was meant to mock Fantasia, but it really makes Miller look bad, and she just might lose her job.
MILLER’S 2ND APOLOGYI apologize for the lack of sensitivity shown in my FaceBook post. It was a thoughtless comment made during a moment of frustration. It was unprofessional and not representative of the JET mission, which is to uplift. I regret letting my emotions get the best of me. I am truly apologetic.”
