We went to see Think Like A Man today and I loved it. If you want to be amused and entertained this is the movie for you. Along the way we deal with relationship problems that we all understand. Kevin Hart is outstanding as the comedeic thread that keeps the movie connected. This is week 2 for the movie and judging by the audience reaction this movie will be going strong for a long time. I heard many of the viewers saying they will be seeing it again. If slapstick, buffoonery is what you are looking for this is not the movie for you, but if smart comedy delivered by a smart ensemble is what you like you will like this movie.

This morning Steve Harvey appeared on CBS Morning Show to discuss his new movie Think Like a Man whish is based on his book. In the book he talks about the 90 Day Rule. Harvey bases this on when you start a job you generally have to work for 90 days before you are eligible for the benefits. He says that women should wait 90 days before they start giving up their benefit package. Morning host Gayle King said she was asking her 20something staff members about the 90 day rule and they said that they thought his thinking was antiquated. They said 3 dates was more in line with their thinking. Three dates. Harvey said he wrote the book for his daughters and he stood by the 90 days. What do you think is Harvey spot on or is he out of step? Tell me what you think.
Fox News Atlanta has found the 5th accuser in the Eddie Long suit. Centino Kemp erases all doubt about the disgraced bishop. Watch the clip and you will see what I mean.
The Essence Music Festival was held in New Orleans over the weekend. I was sent the photo above and I was struck by Nene Leakes. We first met Leakes on the Bravo show The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and most recently she appeared on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice. She is living the American Dream. She got her 15 minutes of fame and she has managed to parlay them into a career. Who cares that she berates and belittles her castmates in this day and time that’s classified as entertainment. She has managed to make the previous reality villian Omarosa look like a Sunday school teacher. Leakes was at the festival delivering encouraging and inspiring words to the crowd. Leakes is now famous, and that is an achievement, but the real question is was it worth it?
“Chris Rock tweeted a defense of embattled fellow comic Tracy Morgan on Friday, prompting GLAAD to fire back. Rock, who’s known to push the envelope during his stand-up routines, said of Morgan’s anti-gay jokes: “I dont know about you, but I dont want to live in world where Tracy Morgan cant say foul inappropriate s—” Replied GLAAD: “Language about stabbing kids for being gay isn’t ‘foul.’ It’s dangerous.”* So the question is does anything go in comedy? Should we give a comedian a pass regarding what they say on stage?

Last week Bishop Eddie Long settled a lawsuit with 4 young men who had accused him of sexual misconduct. The settlement made some of his supporters, and some who truly believed he would fight very disappointed. The true believers felt if he was truly innocent he would never have settled. This morning on The View Sherri Shepherd let loose on the bishop. Tell me what you think.
Jacob Lusk was on the last cycle of American Idol. Although I did not watch the cycle regularly I did see Lusk perform twice. He has talent, but he does lacks polish. A friend of mine brought this tweet to my attention. Lusk came in 5th in the contest and he will have the opportunity to tour with the other finalists. So he will make some money, but now he has to ask himself ‘what next’? I find it interesting that he explores the idea of doing a gospel album. I have no problem with R&B artists doing gospel music, but I do have a problem with gospel being looked at as the fall back plan. If he had won Idol would he be contemplating gospel? We are seeing more and more gospel artists move away from the traditional gospel genre and move toward music that crosses over into the R&B arena. I read somewhere recently that there “is nothing wrong with crossing over as long as you carry the cross over.”
Last week Bishop Eddie Long settled with the four young men that accused him of sexual misconduct. None of the parties will speak on the facts, but it seems the members of his church are finding new places to worship, and one of his high profile members stepped down this Sunday. Rev. Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., left the church on Sunday. We will never know why but King is not the only one leaving the megachurch.
