Sarah Ferguson got caught selling influence. She is the former wife of Prince Andrew and the former daughter-in-law of the Queen of England. She has embarrassed herself and the royal family. She was trading access to the royal family for cash. She arrived in the United States today and issued a statement that said she had a “lapse injudgment.” Give me a break. She simply got caught and now she knows she has to make an attempt to repair the damage, but I would ask what is the difference between what she did and what lobbyist do everyday? Lobbyists are in Washington to get government to look favorable on whatever they are pushing at the moment, and if they don’t spread around money, gifts and trips they know they will not get business or access. So I don’t think we are in the position to tar and feather the former royal because she was simply exploiting her resource and although it might have been in poor taste it was not criminal. Ferguson was simply acting as a lobbyist for her own cause–herself.
