Did Rev. Wright knock the President today?

“Speaking at the 100th anniversary of a Washington, D.C. church, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright knocked President Barack Obama and accused America’s elite academic institutions of instilling racism. Wright opened up his sermon at the Florida Avenue Baptist Church Sunday by reading from the Book of Isaiah and speaking of the importance of foundational stones. Using that as a metaphor, Wright proceeded to list dozens of names that he suggested were foundational stones for the black community, from Nat Turner to Emmett Till to W.E.B Du Bois. He then seemingly took a shot at his former parishioner, President Obama.
“They are the foundation,” he said of the names he listed. “These stones of memory shall serve as a sign among you so that in the future when your children, who only know Oprah and Obama, when our children who speak the language of Nas, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne (Weezy) and Ludacris. When your children ask you who are these people and what do these stones mean, these stones mean, you can tell them what it is that God did to get us from where we were to where we are.” “This is how God brought us out,” he continued. “This is how God brought us over, this is how God brought us through.” Wright later went on to suggest that America’s elite universities infect African Americans with “white racist DNA.”* share your thoughts.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck Compares Rev. Wright to Christine O’Donnell…is this fair?

Over the weekend Bill Maher former host of Politicaly Incorrect released tapes of Delaware Senate Candidate Christine O’Donnell. She siad that she “dabbled in witchcraft” during high school. Joy Behar said they really need to investigate O’Donnell’s past. Elizabeth Hasselbeck compared O’Donnell’s revelations to Rev. Wright. She contends that O’Donnell’s comments do not reflect her beliefs today and the media should leave her alone. She says if they look into her past they should further investigate the president’s relationship with Rev. Wright. Tell me what you think.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright Said the President “Threw Him Under the Bus”, He’s Right

When the press first started releasing selected, edited soundbites of Rev. Wright’s sermons in 2008 the president did not immediately denounce Rev. Wright. He delivered his famous Philadelphia speech on race and attempted to explain the mindset of black men of a certain age, but when Rev. Wright insinuated that the president’s remarks were purely political it was then that the president had to cut him loose. Now two years later Wright is complaining about his lack of access to the White House. “In his strongest language to date about the administration’s 2-year-old rift with him, Wright told a group raising money for African relief that his pleas to release frozen funds for use in earthquake-ravaged Haiti would likely be ignored. Wright said “”No one in the Obama administration will respond to me, listen to me, talk to me or read anything that I write to them. I am ‘toxic’ in terms of the Obama administration,” Wright wrote the president of Africa 6000 International earlier this year. He went on to say “I am ‘radioactive,’ Sir. When Obama threw me under the bus, he threw me under the bus literally!” he wrote. “Any advice that I offer is going to be taken as something to be avoided. Please understand that!”* So the question here is why would this surprise Rev. Wright? Rev. Wright is free to say anything he wants, but he like anyone else is going to be held accountable for his words. It is true that the president did throw him under the bus, but Rev. Wright needs to look at his own actions and he will see he gave the president no choice.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright Says The Jews are “Keeping the President”

In a recent interview Rev. Wright said “Them Jews ain’t going to let him talk to me,” Wright said. “I told my baby daughter that he’ll talk to me in five years when he’s a lame duck, or in eight years when he’s out of office. They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. … I said from the beginning: He’s a politician; I’m a pastor. He’s got to do what politicians do.”  This is the kind of conversation that keeps us divided. It helps keep the us versus them mentality in full effect. Black people hate to call this hatespeak, but that is what it is. Rev. Wright is a citizen of this country and he is free to speak his mind, but with free speech comes responsibility, and this kind of dialogue is irresponsible. No one is keeping the president from him. President Obama made a choice to cut his ties with Rev. Wright and the more we hear from Rev. Wright the more we know it was the wise choice.

Collateral Damage of Election 2008: William Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright

During the election we heard the names William Ayers and Jeremiah Wright constantly associated with Barack Obama. Obama was accused of “palling around” with terrorists by Sarah Palin,  and the controversial sermons of Rev. Wright were used to question Sen. Obama’s character, but what effect did this have on the lives of Ayers and Wright? No one in the media seemed to care. They were pawns in the political process. These men unlike Obama were not running for office they were dragged into the process.  The members of Trinity United were under siege. Members of the press were even calling members of the congregation who were on the sick and shut-in list in an effort to get statements about their then pastor.  Both of these men have families and friends who witnessed how the press portrayed them to the nation. So the election is over and both men have come out of hiding and they are both having their say. Rev. Wright has verbally chastised two of his assailants: Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Sean Hannity and both are upset that Rev. Wright in particular is now taking swipes at them. What did they expect? William Ayers appeared on Hardball yesterday and he said this guilt by association is simply going too far. Pretty soon if you were simply on the same bus with someone you will be accused of “palling around” with them. The election is over and these two maligned citizens have the right to come out swinging because fair or unfair they have already taken their lumps.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck Can Dish it Out, but She Can’t Take It

This morning on The View the team was discussing the fact that Rev. Wright was back in the Trinity pulpit yesterday. He is rightfully angry at the media and their treatment of him last spring. Trinity United was under a media spotlight like no other church has ever been. During this media blitz Elizabeth did her share of Rev. Wright bashing. As a matter of fact she took swipes at Barack Obama’s patriotism and she also made some snide remarks about Mrs. Obama at a GOP luncheon held during their convention.  So today she is taking extreme umbrage to the fact that Rev. Wright referred to her as a “broad”. She says this term is sexist and I actually agree with her, but she has said some vile things during the course of this campaign so if you are dishing it out you have to learn how to accept it and move on. Rev. Wright took a lot of heat for the things he said and now he is just taking this opportunity to strike back at some who had no problem piling it on him

Jeremiah Wright Says Obama Made a Mistake When He Left Trinity

This spring during the primaries ABC News unearthed some very firey and controversial sermons delivered by Barack Obama’s former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. Initially Obama denounced the sermons, but he supported his former pastor, but after Wright’s appearance at the National Press Club Obama had to cut all of his ties with Wright. Wright has since stepped down as the pastor of Trinity but he was in the pulpit yesterday celebrating the church’s anniversary. Wright who is angry at his treatment by the media said  “The hatred of the media and the haters in politics may have caused him to distance himself from us, but the love of Christ will never allow me to distance myself from him,” Wright said of Obama. “I can no more disown him than I can disown any other child of mine who makes [a] bad decision. He made a bad decision, but he’s still my child.” This was a very personal decision for the president-elect, but had he not made the decision he would not be the president elect.

The GOP Revives Jeremiah Wright in the Closing Days of the Campaign

Over the past two days we have seen Republican ads featuring Jeremiah Wright. The commercials say Obama sat there for 20 years and did not feel the need to leave until he decided to run for president. The purpose of revisiting the Wright tapes from their point of view is to question Obama’s judgment. We heard these snippets this spring, and we also saw Rev. Wright’s appearance at the National Press Club, and we again condemn what the pastor said, but this should not be the only thing that a person considers when determining whether Barack Obama is the right man for the presidency. He is. He has condemned Rev. Wright and in no way does this preacher speak for Obama. We need a person with the right judgment on critical life and death issues. We need a candidate that knew we should never have entered Iraq without an exit strategy. We need a candidate that knows the fundamentals of the economy are not strong, but with the right plans they can be made strong again. We need a candidate that is a uniter and not a divider. We make no excuses for the words of Jeremiah Wright they were divisive and wrong, but that does not make John McCain the answer to the problems we are facing.

Why is Jeremiah Wright Talking Now?

Rev. Wright is on a mission to set the record straight about the controversial statements he made during his sermons. He will appear on PBS tomorrow night with Bill Moyers. Anything Rev. Wright says will be used against Sen. Obama. When Obama gave his speech on race he denounced the hate-filled rhetoric that had been espoused by Rev. Wright. He denounced the remarks but he remained loyal to his friend. He said Rev. Wright was the man that led him to Christ and he would not throw him under the bus. Well I wish that loyalty was a two-way street because it looks like Rev. Wright is revving up the truck and getting ready to mow Obama down. Rev. Wright is letting his own bruised ego stand in the way of the Obama campaign. Wright  said,“The persons who have heard the entire sermon understand the communication perfectly. When something is taken like a soundbite for a political purpose and put constantly over and over again, looped in the face of the public, that’s not a failure to communicate. Those who are doing that are communicating exactly what they want to do, which is to paint me as some sort of fanatic or, as the learned journalist from the New York Times called me, a ‘wackadoodle.’ This is about him not about Obama, but the only reason the media wants to speak to Rev. Wright is to link whatever he says back to Obama. This is tragically a no-win situation. The public perspective of Rev. Wright is set in stone. He will never be able to live down or adequately clarify any of his statements, but what he does have is the ability to hurt Obama, and that is what he is doing. In his heart he means no harm, but in this political season he is like putting gasoline on a fire. Rev. Wright respectfully we ask you to be silent during this season

Barack Obama is No Longer Responsible for Every Word Uttered by Rev. Wright

I was listening to Fox News today and they were discussing one of their favorite subjects Rev. Jeremiah Wright. They literally salivate with glee at the mere mention of his name. Rev. Wright is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at Detroit NAACP Dinner on April 27th. The commentators were appalled that the organization would invite him to speak. They then wondered what would he say, and finally they moved to Obama. They said everywhere Obama goes he has to answer for Rev. Wright. When asked about the Rev. Wright, Obama reiterates that he has denounced Rev. Wright’s remarks. We know the Wright issue is not going to go away, but Obama can not be held accountable for every utterance that comes out of Rev. Wright’s mouth. Rev. Wright is no longer the pastor of Trinity and he is no longer on the campaign advisory committee. Rev. Wright is a private citizen of this country and he has the right to say anything he pleases, and it is not Obama’s job to answer for anything Rev. Wright says now.
