Mitt Romney and the Mormon Question

I received this video from author Tricia Erickson. Erikson is a former Mormon. Her father was a bishop in the Mormon church. She has recently written a book, Can Mitt Serve Two Masters?” Watch the clip and share your thoughts.

Van Jones says black people would vote for the president even if he were gay…is he right?

Van Jones says the black vote is solid for the president. When asked if the president came out for gay marriage would he lose the black vote Jones laughed and said even if he came out as gay he would not lose the black vote. What do you think? Many in the black community are members of churches that view homosexuality as sin. Do you think these church going, Bible toting, tongue speaking Christians would vote the president no matter what? Tell me what you think.

Stripper Pole in the Pulpit?

In an effort to make religion more relatable ministers are using all kinds of props to illustrate their lessons. Recently a Cincinatti minister actually placed a stripper pole in the pulpit. is this going too far or is this the way ministers need to relate to congregation? Read the link and tell me what you think.

Mitt Romney questioned about Mormon doctrine…is this fair?

What do we know about Mormons? Probably not much but Mitt Romney will probably be the first Mormon to be nominated for president. today on the campaign trail he was questioned about it and he answered a question but refused to discuss doctrine. Question is if he becomes the nominee will he need to be more open regarding his faith as it relates to the way he will lead the country? Tell me what you think.

Rod Parsley’s Political Rant should not be on The Word Network

This afternoon I decided to sit down and watch a little gospel preaching on television. So I turned on The Word Network, but to my surprise I was greeted by a preacher, but he wasn’t preaching he was advocating.  Parsley was advocating that the current Healthcare law be repealed or defunded. His beliefs stem from his assertion that we (the citizens) will now be paying for abortion. He criticized the Secretary of Health and Human Services and he even demonized the late Dr. George Tiller. He said that Tiller had killed 60,000 unborn children, but he failed to acknowledge that Tiller had been killed by an anti-abortion nutcase. Parsley went on to name the following Congressmen as his allies and they were: Chris Smith, Mike Pence and John Boehner. What do they have in common? They are all Republican. He did also name Daniel Lipinski who is a Democrat as a friend on this issue. He encouraged people to go to his website and a sign a petition to defund or repeal the healthcare bill, and he did also do something that preachers like to do: he asked for donations when you sign the petition. I am not debating Parsley’s belief, but what bothers me is when he airs his opinion under the guise of ministry and that is what I witnessed today. When I tune in The Word network that is what I want to hear…The Word, and today the message was far too political to be called The Word.

Happy Birthday Jesus…Against the Rules?

During the holidays we see inflatable Santas, lighted reindeers and other over the top displays of the holidays, but what happens when you put up a small sign that says Happy Birthday Jesus? Well in one community that sign is viewed as a violation of the Home Owners Association rules.  This sign could be interpreted to simply be decorations but it is being viewed as a violation. Is this fair? Is this an assault on Christianity or is this simply a community trying to make sure signs are not displayed throughout their community. Tell me what you think. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/28/AR2010122804199.html?referrer=emailarticle

Unbelievable…Pat Robertson Calls Disaster in Haiti “Blessing in Disguise”

How could such devastation be described as a blessing? Pat Robertson talks about how the island is cursed. He makes these statements while asking for aid for the country. Hopefully his viewers will be touched by the tragedy and help the victims, and not look at this disaster,  and think the country is under some kind of generational curse.

The Radical Right and their Perversion of Psalms 109

The radical right wing of the Republican Party continues its Holy War against the president. They are currently selling merchandise that says Pray for Obama  with a scriptural reference Psalms 109:8-9 which reads: Let his days be few; and let another take his office. Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. There is nothing like the perversion of prayer and that is what this is. There is nothing Christ- like about this prayer, and it might fall within the perview of the Secret Service. I pray that none of these zealots  try to fulfill the scripture for the good of the nation.
