We live in the communication age and that is a blessing and a curse. Some people simply communicate too much. Twitter has provided people with a forum that allows them to chronicle all of their idol thoughts. Some thoughts should be kept to yourself. Case in point Jim Carrey recently tweeted about the Tiger Woods scandal “No wife is blind enough to miss that much infidelity. Elin had 2 b a willing participant on the ride 4 whatever reason. kids/lifestyle ;^)” So it’s Elin’s fault that her husband is a serial adulterer. Yes let’s blame the wife she must have known. We don’t know what she knew or when she knew it but it is unfair to try to fault her in this situation. This tweet borders on calling her a gold digger.

Tiger Woods was once the darling of the media. That was until it was exposed that he had numerous affairs with assorted bimbos. Once the first one spoke out the rest started popping out of the woodwork like roaches. Tiger refused to play the media game and come out crying and apologizing. He released two statements via his website and departed for parts still unknown, but they are still talking about him. Some of his sponsors have jumped ship but some of the big ones including Nike are not ready to abandon their cash cow. Let’s get this straight Tiger is a confessed cheater and that is a bad thing, but let’s look at Charlie Sheen who allegedly pulled a knife on his wife over the holidays. His antics hardly caused a blimp in media land. The media gave him a pass and simply chalked it up to “Charlie being Charlie”. Today I saw the February cover of Vanity Fair and they have revealed the “the scary Tiger.” Why is there this need to demonize him? The photo is reminiscent of the Newsweek cover that featured OJ after the murders. They had to admit they had darkened the photo for effect. So no more Mr. Nice Tiger now he is just plain ole scary because the media says so and they’ve got the pictures to prove it.

We are coming to the end of two weeks of Tiger Woods coverage. It has been Tiger, Tiger, Tiger almost 24/7. Everyday seemed to bring another former conquest in search of a podium or megaphone to recite her sordid tryst with Tiger. The sports columnists, pundits and the man on the street have all had an opinion on what Tiger needed to do to move forward. The prevailing point of view was that Woods needed to come out and talk to the media. He needed to recite his sins and beg our collective forgiveness. He needed to do this soon or it would be everlasting too late, but Tiger decided not to follow the script. Tiger decided to do a Frank Sinatra and do it his way. He made his first statement which talked about his “transgressions” on his website, and he made his last statement that admitted “infidelity” on his website. He has asked for privacy and he has stepped off the greens for the time being. He has not stepped in front of the media with his wife at his side and cried crocodile tears for the media to analyze whether he was sincere enough. He has just decided to step back and let the ladies have the floor, and he will go somewhere and try to salvage his life and his marriage, but he is doing it his way.

There is really no difference between tabloid television and morning news. I really should put air quotes over the word news. For almost two weeks we have been the forced to watch the unraveling of Tiger Woods marriage. TMZ and tabloid newspapers received an early Christmas present when Woods crashed his car into that tree. We have come to expect sensationalism from entities that were built to deliver it, but we now can put the Today Show in the same category. This morning they interviewed Jamie Junger. She is one of the women that claim to have had a relationship with Woods. She had the audacity to express anger at a NY Post story about her. In the story they claim she was paid for her sexual favors. She said she was not that kind of girl. She is the kind of girl that knowingly sleeps with a married man but she would not accept money. As she said she and Tiger enjoyed sex and not the “boring married couple sex.” She claimed she was doing the interview to clear the air, but why was the Today Show interviewing her? The Today Show is Number 1 and they want to stay Number 1. So if occasionally they have to gutter troll to keep the ratings up they will do it. The Today Show was once a news show with some human interest stories sprinkled in, but now it is on the same level with TMZ and that’s shame.

Over the past few days we have watched the media salivate over every salacious detail of the Tiger escapades. We have heard the 911 call from yesterday and the media has pointed out there was a child crying in the background. Every day we are hearing about more emails and voicemails from his former conquests. At this point we are almost desensitized to this situation. So now we are hearing the media tell Tiger what he can do to fix this. He needs to talk. I heard an ESPN analysts say he needs to talk to Oprah so he can win the women back. This is not going to blow over because the media will not let it blow over, and when Tiger talks it will not blow over. This story is far too juicy to let it go and the media will claw on to every new allegation in their concerted effort to keep it going.

I occasionally take note of what Rush Limbaugh says on his program, but sometimes his comments are worthy of a reply and yesterday was one of those days. On his show Rush said the following“ I got two more stories in the stack today about how black unemployment is through the roof. Black unemployment is terrible. The black frame of mind is terrible, they’re depressed, they’re down — Obama’s not doing anything for ‘em. How is that hoax and change workin’ for ya? They’re all livid. I mean, they thought there were gonna be an exact 180-degree economic reversal and it’s done nothing but get bad for everybody, but they’re especially upset about it because they look at him as one of them, and now they feel abandoned. And I’m sure Tiger Woods’ choice of females not helping ‘em out with their attitudes there either.” What the heck is the “black frame of mind”? Limbaugh speaks to millions of people each day and they actually believe what he says. He makes blanket statements like he is an authority, and he knows nothing about what is going on in the black community. There is depression throughout this country with so many people looking for work and being unable to find it. The election of President Obama was truly a source of pride for the black community, but no one was foolish enough to believe that their life would radically change by electing Obama. What the community did want was a radical change because after 8 years of President Bush most Americans not just Black Americans wanted something different. To make the rant even more ridiculous is the insertion of the Tiger Woods controversy. Contrary to his narrow racist point of view most people consider Woods escapades to be his business. His choice of women has no effect on the temperament of Black America. Perhaps Limbaugh might benefit from having a real conversation with a black person prior to making ridiculous assumptions, but I take that lack most black people don’t want to have a conversation with him.

Did Tiger Woods’ wife strike him with a golf club? This is seemingly funny to so many people in America. I have heard comedians joking about it and I have seen cartoon depictions of it and each of these things is followed by laughter, but tell me what is funny about this? If his wife did this she is an abuser and Woods’ is a domestic violence victim and this is an unfunny situation. I was talking to a friend today and she said she has no sympathy for Woods’ because he is a cheater. I understand this thinking but if Tiger was seen chasing his wife with a golf club he would be in jail and nobody would be laughing. We will never know what went on in their home last week, but when they came outside and he hit the tree all of their personal business became public and that is sad, but if his wife struck him with a golf club that is domestic violence and that is criminal.
