The News has been Gay All Day

target gay couple
Over the past few days you can’t turn on the news without hearing a discussion on DOMA or Prop8. What will the Supreme Court do? We won’t know their decision until June, but the discussions this week have been passionate on both sides. One of the things that I have found disturbing is the villification of those who support traditional marriage. The Huffington Post featured a picture of the Democratic Senators who had not come out in favor of same sex marriage. It looked like a hit list. Tonight I heard Rev. Al chastise the Republicans for not coming out for what is “right”, but who defines what is right for you? If you were brought up in the church you are taught marriage is between a man and a woman. Some like the president evolve over time and become proponents of same sex marriage. One of the things I find interesting about gay marriage is how they sucessfuylly re-branded the issue. A few years ago the phrase “marriage equality” was introduced. Who is going to argue against equality? If you do argue against equality then what does that make you? A bigot? The branding has gone two ways. The gays want equal rights and anyone who stands against it is a bigot. Well, I’m no bigot, but I still believe in traditional marriage. The political pendulum is swinging widely and last week a top GOP senator came out in support of marriage equality, but only after he found out his son was gay. Over the past week Hillary Clinton, possible presidential contender in 2016 voiced her support. Times are changing and people are changing. There is an evolution taking place but not everyone is going to evolve, and hopefully we can all coexist.

Why was Ann Curry forbidden from sending comforting tweet to ABC Robin Roberts?

NBC Today Show took a rating hit last year and they have not been able to recover. They dumped Ann Curry and the public blamed Matt Lauer. That was June 2012, but the bad news keeps coming. When ABC Robin Roberts announced that she needed a bone marrow transplant Curry asked the network if she could send a tweet of support. NBC said no. Read the linked article to find out why.

MSNBC Toure dismissed Dr. Ben Carson as the GOP’s “black friend”

I watch MSNBC The Cycle and I like Toure, but I think he is wrong to dismiss Dr. Ben Carson. Carson has been critical of the president and the Republicans are giving him a platform to air his criticism. This is America and Carson has a right to his own opinion and his own party. I think liberals make a mistake when they attempt to diminish their opponents. Carson is a smart man and he is not going to become the new Herman Cain. Carson has chosen to align with the conservatives because he is a conservative and that should not be forgotten. He is nobody’s token. He is a man with an opinion and he should not be dismissed because he does not share the mindset of the liberals. newsflash there are some black Republicans and they are not Uncle Toms. This is a 2 party system and he has a right to choose the one that works for him.

Sarah Palin and her Big Gulp Joke…it is hard to believe that she was a contender?

I shudder to think that if John McCain had been elected president in 2008 this woman would have been a heartbeat from the presidency.

Dr. Ben Carson addresses CPAC…does he really believe the President is trying to destroy this country?

Dr. Ben Carson has been the belle of the conservative ball since he appeared at the National Prayer breakfast. That appearance is why he had the opportunity to address CPAC. He is effectively articulating his opposition to the president in a somber, non emotional tone. He is pardon the pun just what the doctor oredered, but this group might hoot and holler at the doctor that’s where the adoration ends. He has as much chance of being the nominee in 2016 as Mitt Romney does, and you don’t have to be a brain surgeon to see that.

Rob Portman reverses his same sex marriage stance because of gay son…so it was wrong until he had a gay son?

I have had a number of discussions regarding gay marriage in this space. Most readers are for or against it and they don’t really vary from their positions. Senator Rob Portman had actually been a proponent of traditional marriage until his son Will came out to him in 2011. Now he has reversed his stance. So are people governed by their long held religious beliefs or do those beliefs go out the window when a loved one comes out? Share your thoughts.
