McCain & the Crew Seek the Low Road

McCain’s newest ad calls Barack Obama a celebrity. Britney Spears is also featured in the ad. It shows the crowd shots from Obama’s trip to Berlin. It basically acknowledges he is famous, but he is not ready to lead. McCain and the crew have been sniping at Obama the entire time he was on the trip and now that he is back the sniping continues. This ad says nothing about McCain’s fitness for office. He is just shown smiling. An old man smiling is simply not enough. The McCain strategy is simply to attack and the facts are irrelevant to their strategy. To juxapose the troubled star in a presidential commercial is simply unacceptable. If the campaign is going this negative this early what do they have in mind for the future? Will they have a white woman saying call me like the Republicans did when Harold Ford was running for a Senate seat in Tennessee?  Maybe they have a Willie Horton up their sleeve? Remember nothing is too low for this crew to do. It’s still early so there is still a long way to go to get to the bottom of the barrow, but the McCain crew will get there soon because this rocket has just started to plummet.

Obama the Risky Choice, but the Right Choice

Americans regard Senator John McCain as the safe choice. Barack Obama is regarded as the risky choice, but as we look at our economy, the war in Iraq, the cost of living it is the time to take a risk. People are seemingly more comfortable with the devil they know versus the devil they don’t. Throughout the campaign Obama has been criticized for not going to the war zone. The McCain campaign instituted a countdown that showed the number of days it had been since Obama had last visited Iraq. Over the past week we have witnessed Obama visit the war zones, parts of the Middle East and Europe, but all week McCain and his crew have criticized every facet of Obama’s visit. The McCain crew even criticized Obama’s statement after he visited the Holocaust Memorial. This hypercritical attitude that McCain has shown has made him look and sound like a grumpy old man. Yesterday 200,000 Germans came to hear Obama speak and the media and McCain have both found fault in this. McCain appearing at two German resteraunts in Ohio mocked the turnout and said he rather give a speech in Germany as president and not as a nominee. Let’s get serious 200,000 people would not come out to see McCain if he was passing out money. It has been a historic week for the Obama team, but what reamins to be seen is how will this visit help the campaign? Screaming crowds in Europe are impressive, but they can’t vote in November.

Joe Lieberman Has Become the Republican Attack Dog

Wesley Clark’s remarks regarding Sen. McCain’s service record and his ability to lead are front page news. The Republicans have responded with a collective “How Dare You.” Lieberman’s remark about a possible terrorist attack have not garnered nearly as much attentiton. Lieberman suggested there will probably be an attack early in the first term of the new presidency. He said  ”Our enemies will test the new president early,” Lieberman, I-Conn., told Face The Nation host Bob Schieffer. “Remember that the truck bombing of the World Trade Center happened in the first year of the Clinton administration. 9/11 happened in the first year of the Bush administration.” So this according to Lieberman is the reason that we must vote for McCain because he will keep us safe. This is similar to what McCain chief strategist, Charlie Black said. Black was forced to give the obligatory apology, but that is not the Lieberman role. His job is to throw the dirt and see what sticks.  This is the politics of fear at its very best. Lieberman goes out there and says this as if he is speaking as a true independent.  It is hard to believe that just 8 years ago he was number 2 on the Democratic ticket. He is a new man with a new job–the McCain dirty work.
