How many people had heard the name Creflo Dollar prior to his arrest last week? I had heard and listened to him over the years so I know him for more than the arrest. How about Eddie Long? Had you heard anything about him prior to the sexual allegations, and who can forget the Reverand Jeremiah Wright. So why do we only hear of these men when they are on the receiving end of negative media attention. Now let me first say this I am not condoning bad behavior and in Long’s case possible criminal behavior, but what I am questioning is why don’t we hear of some of the good things going on in the black church? Are black ministers only worthy of a second glance when a police report is filed? In Wright’s case we saw the media try and convict him on snippets from sermons delivered over the past 20 years. So all of the incidents above are separate, but what they do have in common is the media took great delight in showcasing the ministers and their ministries, but when black ministries are feeding the poor, giving clothing to the needy or reaching out to the community where is the camera then? Good news is not news, and bad news goes viral.
Creflo Dollar was arrested this morning for assaulting his daughter. He contends that she wanted to go to a party and he said no. He said she then became disrespectful and they got into a scuffle. She called the police on her father. this was a family dispute that has gone global. Some would say no parent has a right to raise their hand to a child. I would also say that a child should never disrespect the hand that feeds them. We live in a society that encourages a child to dial 911. Teenagers have the capacity to push your buttons and I am sure his daughter pushed the wrong one this morning.
Creflo Dollar the pastor who once said those that do not tithe should be shot was arrested this morning. Luckily for him the police in his town are not that trigger happy he was charged with simple batttery. Dollar was booked at about 2AM and his bond was set at $5,000. Police have not released any details regarding the victim or the incident.
This clip was brought to my attention by a story posted on The Grio. I watched the clip and I can only say that I am throughly disgusted and appalled. In the clip Creflo Dollar defends his friend Bishop Eddie Long and characterizes the sexual misconduct charges as having a “wreck”. He admonishes the members who have left him by saying the Bishop has done so many good things in the past that he should be forgiven. What Dollar forgot is the members can forgive him but they do not have to support him. Members do not expect perfection from the preacher, but they do not want him to be a predator. Long paid the money to his accusers to make this go away, but he is now paying the price by seeing his memberhip drop, and anyone that tells people to go backĀ is as guilty as the one that caused them to leave. http://missjia.com/open-discussion-creflo-dollar-tells-eddie-longs-church-to-go-back-video.html
Malachi 3:8-Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, Wherein have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings.
This is the scripture that is repeated in churches when talking about tithing. If you don’t you are branded a robber of God, but God is the ultimate judge not man. So when I saw this video I was disturbed that Creflo Dollar said if not for the blood he would favor uzis as a form of punishment to those who do not tithe. What is more disturbing is that people continue to listen to ministers that say things that are contrary to the Bible. If we are in fact under the blood as Dollar states then we would not harbor what if fantasies as he clearly articulates in the tape. I am sure he was trying to make a point regarding the importance of tithing but this is not the way. This is simply wrong.
