Was Star Jones ambushed on The View yesterday?

Star Jones appeared on The View yesterday for the first time in 6 years. She left in 2006 when her contract was not renewed. She announced it prior to the agreed upon time and Barba walters was livid. Since that time Jones has had her own show on Court Television and she is now on the NBC Today Show. This morning she was defended by Donny Deutsch who said she was ambushed on The View yesterday, and he went on to say that Barbara Walters and Joy Behar acted like mean girls. My question is were Walters and Behar out of line talking about the past or would it have been weird not to discuss Star’s departure. ABC The View Barbara Walters was downright hostile to JFK mistress Mimi Alford

Over the last few days Mimi Alford has made the rounds on the talks shows promoting her memoir that details her relationship with President Kennedy. Walters took extreme umbrage to the salacious details that Alford shared in the book. She asked Alford why did she feel the need to share her story? Alford countered by saying she was outed in 2008 memoir by another Kennedy insider to which Walters replied no one even knew her name. Walters asked her did she think about Caroline which was interesting. Alford was also someone’s daughter did the president think about that before they became involved? It was obvious that Walters resented that this woman has chosen to tell her story. It was an interesting reaction and one I too could identify with. We all know that Kennedy was a womanizer, but it is something that is more upsetting to hear that he had sex with a 19 year old intern. He was in fact old enough to be her father. This took place in 1962 before the press reported every minute of the president’s schedule. People in the White House knew this was going on, but everyone chose to look the other way and now 50 years later we are forced to watch the last stones of the Camelot era fall apart before our eyes, and for people of a certain age it is easier to chastise the messenger than to deal with the fact that president took advantage of an intern. ABC message boards show opinions similar to mine.

I just watched Barbara Walters politely “grill” JFK’s mistress. You could tell that BW was strategically attacking this woman but in such a way to deny her actions. What is up with BW? It was very inappropriate for BW to behave in this manner. I don’t think she is in a place to throw stones. Besides, it took two (JFK and the mistress) to have an affair. Barbara, you should apologize for your unprofessional and childish behavior.

By REPEATEDLY implying that her guest is revealing lurid sexual details only to sell her book, she attempts to shame a woman who was victimized for revealing a man’s unethical sexual harrassment. The President of the Unites States could well be the world’s most intimidating authority figure, and having ANY kind of sexual relationship with his 19 year old employee is criminal. He did a BAD thing, MANY BAD THINGS, and yet Ms. Walters seems to believe the BAD thing is exposing him. If Ms. Walters cannot acknowledge that a man she admired was perhaps, not so admirable, that is HER problem. Making these dirty deeds public is the RIGHT thing to do, to educate everyone on the dangers of hero worship, and the evil of blaming the victim.

Whoopi Goldberg is mad at Newt Gingrich, but she needs to get the facts straight

This is what Newt Gingrich said about poor children, “Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working, and have nobody around them who works. So they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday. … They have no habit of ‘I do this and you give me cash,’ unless it’s illegal.” Gingrich suggested that poor children could be “junior janitors.” He went on to say that these junior janitor positions would be reserved for children in really poor neighborhoods and public housing projects. He never said poor children should not go to school. He is suggesting that they work in their schools in positions that are currently performed by adults. This is bad anyway you look at it, but let’s be clear about what we are mad about. He has made some outrageous statements about child labor laws, but he has not said that poor children should not be educated.

Why is Sherri Shepherd offended by Barbara Walter’s use of the N-word, but not Whoopi Goldberg’s?

Today the hot topics got really hot on The View. While discussing the Rick Perry “Niggerhead Camp” Sherri Shepherd was offended when Barbara Walters said the word nigger, but she did not take offense when her co-host, Whoopi Goldberg said the same word. Walters said she was merely saying the word as part of the story she was not calling Shepherd a name, but Shepherd was still upset and she said she could not explain it to Walters. This is the problem with the word. It is either offensive or it is not. It can’t be fine for one group to say it and time to pull out protest signs when another groups says it. It is an ugly word and nobody should be saying it.

The cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Live is a sad sign of the times

I was sad to hear that ABC is canceling All My Children and One Life to Live. I watched both of these shows from childhood through college. Once I got my first real job I gradually stopped watching, but I still would occasionally ask my aunt about the antics going on in Pine Valley and Llanview. “All My Children,” set in fictional Pine Valley, a town that closely resembles the Philadelphia Main Line, premiered on ABC on Jan. 5, 1970, as a half-hour show; seven years later it expanded to an hour. Star Susan Lucci was nominated for a Daytime Emmy 18 times before finally winning for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1999. “One Life to Live,” set in the fictional town of Llanview, which is modeled on a Philadelphia suburb, debuted July 15, 1968, as a half-hour show and became an hourlong in 1978.” One of the reasons they gave for the cancellation was there core audience had left the home and gone to work. The actors and actresses will probably not find profitable gigs like they had anytime soon. They like their primetime counterparts are also victims of reality television. The shows will be replaced with a cooking show and a talk show which will cost a fraction of what the two soap operas cost. Both of these shows had their heydey when there were less television options. During the pre-cable years you really had about four channels to choose from. We chose ABC, and even though I stopped watching years ago,  but I will still miss the residents of Pine Valley and Llanview.

Donald Trump appeared on The View and He is a Birther

While appearing on The View Donald Trump talked about rumors that he will run for president. He was asked if he was a birther. He said he wants to see the president’s birth certificate. He said “there is something on his birth certificate he does not like”. Whoopi Goldberg was agitated and she challenged Trump’s assertions, but Trump stood his ground. Goldberg pointed out that no white president had been asked to show his birth certificate why was this being asked of President Obama. Is this a black/ white issue of is Trump a serious contender? The idea of Trump being president seems laughable, but he seems to be polling well among the Republican field, and today he probably scored some points with members of the birther community. He might be their most famous spokesperson. Would you vote for Trump for president?
