Hadiya Pendleton is a 15 year old Chicago girl that was killed yesterday. Pendleton was a majorette in her high school band and she last week she participated in the presidential inauguration. This week she is dead. She was an honor student, not a gang member but she was killed by a selfish thoughtless person with a gun. This is not about gun control this is about self control and that is what is seemingly lacking in these situations. Sadly none of the friends she was with stayed around to help her or talk to the police. This is not just a police matter this is a community matter.

This is just another of the many tragedies that are now occurring weekly in Chicago. Is it not apparent that this is a cultural problem? That this poor girl’s friends refused to remain with her until the police arrived clearly indicates that they are living in a world with an altered reality. This is a family matter.
Tragic. This young lady was going to make a difference in the world, and now because of stupidity, her community will not have the vibrant, intelligent, caring young adult she was growing into. Prayers for her family and for the people who called themselves her friends…. perhaps this crime will help bring about change so others will not be taken from their loved ones.
