During campaign season much is said, and most is forgotten, but Mitt Romney’s 47% comment just never gets old. Every time I hear it I feel like I am hearing for the very first time. We all tend to relax when we are around people like us. We drop all pretenses and we just get real, and that is what we observe. The rare time when a politician gets real. He is in a room with people just like him and no cameras to chronicle the raw conversation, but he must have forgotten that members of the 47% underclass were the ones filling the wine glasses, and contrary to popular thought among some of the guests they were more than inanimate objects they were thinking, living, breathing people. (I don’t know if one of the 47% released the tape, but I doubt if it was done by a donor. )I have heard pundits explain what they believe he meant but to hear a presidential candidate label people as victims is beyond the pale. We encourage people who are actually victims of different circumstances to see themselves as victorious in spite of their circumstances. He used the word victim. That stings every time I hear it. This statement will live forever no matter what happens November 6th.
