In 2008 Bill Clinton was working very hard for his wife. he wanted her to get the Democratic nomination for president. In his efforts to win support from Sen. Ted Kennedy he said of President Obama, “a few years ago this guy would have been carrying our bags.” Now 4 years later Bill Clinton will be the keynote speaker at the 2012 convention. This story has re-surfaced in the New Yorker magazine. Does it matter?
In 2008 this is how Bill Clinton described the president “A few years ago this guy would have been carrying our bags”

No , it does not matter .
Another pass for another white liberal. The most racist people in America are white liberal but every offense that they commit is overlooked even by the blacks on the plantation if the infraction if they are liberal Democrats. I wonder if it would matter if that had been said by a white Republican.
This might surprise you but I agree with you. Not the plantation language, but I do think Democrats give a pass to Democrats who say racially insensitive statements. Harry Reid, Joe Biden and Bill Clinton are all guilty of it and all were given a pass.
EM we came sooo close to agreement, but not quite. Even in your expression of disapproval you attempt to mitigate the insult. Clinton’s language was not racially insensitive, it was flat out racist. Racially insensitive language is something spoken which COULD be interpreted as racist but was meant otherwise. There is only one way to interpret that comment.
Let me be clear it was racist. No pass just racist!
Bill, one final note. You and I can both see the clear racism in this statement, but please use the same critical eyes to see the GOP use more subtle messages with the same racist intent this campaign season.
There you go again. You’re asking me to compare subtly racist messages with an overtly racist message. Overtly racist messages, such as Clintons, require no critical discernment. The message is unambiguously clear leaving no room for interpretation.
The subtly racist messages that you suggest that are emanating from the GOP may or may not be recognized by me or anyone else. That would require an individual’s interpretation which may be largely influenced by one’s world view.
Response received and expected.
Thank you. I eagerly anticipate your rebuttal.
