Was Chris Christie speaking for Mitt Romney or auditioning for 2016?

Last night I watched Chris Christie speak at the Republican convention. As he spoke of what he had done and was doing in New Jersey I was struck by how long it took for him to get to the main topic: Mitt Romney. My husband said when is he going to talk about Romney, and that seemed to be a question that we shared with many people. Christie is known for his in your face style, he says he is honest, but he can also be brutal. Last night we saw glimpses of this, but he did not let loose. He let us know how great he is, but I don’t think he did Romney any great favors last night, but he didn’t do him any harm either. What do you think? Share your thoughts.

Your headline says it all. He used the keynote to try and get a lock on 16. It was transparent to the point of parody. It hurts his chances with the GOP in the future. My 140 character take on last night.

Ann Romney gave, at best, a Junior League speech and Christie addressed the Kiwanis- but the takeaway was more “Bowling Alone.”

Yes. I was thinking the same thing. I can see the Christie 2016 posters already. I would’ve appreciated him touting Romney’s record as Massachussets governor instead. But uh, maybe that is off limits. Humph.

I don’t see him running in ’16, at least not at the top of the ticket. Romney will probably want a second term….

I was surprised he didn’t do a much better job of making the case against Obama and for Romney. This was a perfect opportunity for him to say “This is what the current administration is doing wrong, and how we will fix it.” He didn’t . Maybe he didn’t want to steal any thunder from VP nominee Paul Ryan when he takes the stage. Traditionally that has been the job of the VP candidate, to allow the presidential candidate to be “statesman-like”. I’ll tune in tonight and see.
