Received this today:
“No matter how many times I’ve see it on the news, I’m still stunned that Missouri Senate Candidate Todd Akin claimed: “…from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Akin now says he regrets those shocking comments. But there’s a much larger anti-women agenda that he will never apologize for: Akin voted to redefine rape and prevent victims from getting the care they need. He voted against equal pay for women. And he wants to outlaw abortion and many forms of birth control — including the pill. Todd Akin isn’t backing down from those positions. That’s why Claire McCaskill needs your help to stop his radical agenda before it’s too late. Together, we can make sure that Akin’s dangerous beliefs don’t make it to the Senate. Show Todd Akin you won’t stand for his offensive anti-women views — support Claire McCaskill today.” Did the citizens who voted for him to be their congressman not know the positions he supports? Did the voters who voted for him in the primary not know the views he holds? Is this a real surprise to anyone? He might not have been a household name across the country prior to Sunday, but the people of Missouri knew who he was and what he stands for and obviously they liked it.

Todd Akin doesn’t need to ask for forgiveness imo, what he stated was fact. Most rapes are not actually rapes, they are simply attacks against the guys that the alleged-victim is jealous of and that is their only way to get back at the guy so they later claim rape on a situation that likely never even occurred. Statistically, the “no” comes into play only after the women fail to get what they want so they later call to claim a rape. Happens everyday worldwide. That’s one of the many reasons only few are convicted of the charge of rape, at least in the USA.
Look, I’m going to try to take your comment at face value, as difficult as it is to do. “what he stated was a fact…” based on what evidence, what study?! I’ve got a study for you: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8765248 says that 5% of victims, or 32,000 women, get pregnant from rape every year. 32,000 women! That’s 5% of the total number of rape incidents the in US. 640,000 women are raped every year in the USA. That is disgusting, and it is disgusting that anyone would speak out against a victim, even if it is alleged.
Which leads to your next ‘gem’: “Most rapes are not actually rapes…” again, any real information to back this up? Does it matter? If an estimated 640K women are violated in this way per year, are you claiming that half aren’t ‘real’? 75%? 95%? It doesn’t matter!! One rape is too many, and one person commenting in a way to justify a criminal act like this is, again, disgusting.
You have no idea what happens in these situations, and you talk as though you don’t have the sense or decency to understand. It doesn’t matter if someone like you thinks a rape claim is false. If any portion of the claims are real, we as a society cannot stand for people who encourage women to stay silent.
“Few are convicted of rape”… since I already know you have no data, let me help. http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/pub/html/cjusew96/cpp.cfm: Around 1992, about 2 men of every 10,000 were convicted of rape in the USA. With a population of around 125 million men in the US at that time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States), that’s 25,000 convictions in a year. That’s 25,000 too many. No matter how you slice it, we are talking about thousands of women every year, millions in your lifetime. Our lawmakers need to err on the side of protecting them, not pandering to uninformed, harmful callous views like yours.
not all Missourians like him.
