Once upon a time Artur Davis was a Democratic congressman with a promising future. In fact he was the first congressman outside of Illinois to endorse Barack Obama for president. He served as co-chair of the president’s 2008 campaign. He also was one of a few Democrats that voted no to the president’s healthcare program. He was unfairly criticized for this vote. He ran for governor of Alabama and lost. So Davis has had time on his hand to nurse his hurt. Davis is now a Republican and they are more than happy to have him. He is the kind of face they need to step up to the microphone and chastise the president, and now he has earned the national stage. He will be a speaker at the GOP convention. Of all the rank in file GOP elite why would this guy who just jumped on the train have something to say that the world need to hear? We have all heard the old saying “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”, well today I am going to paraphrase it and say “hell hath no fury like a former ally, wanna be great former friend scorned”. http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2012/08/artur_davis_democrat_turned_re.html

“Why is Artur Davis speaking at the Republican National Convention??” The idea the Republican’s by inviting Davis to speak at their big convention is solely for the purpose of EMBARRASSING the President and his Party. Secondarily, and something they care less about is that Artur Davis adds ONE black person from Alabama to the Republican Party. As for Artur Davis, well, he looks and sounds like from the Yiddish, “a schlub” (a oaf, or a blockhead) and when a guy loses his seat then turns around and joins the other team that makes him a traitor who can never be trusted. Artur Davis can never be trusted again politically.

Someone like this will say ANYTHING.
Artur Davis lost his seat because he did not support the president’s agenda. He fully understood that as a representative of a predominantly black district, he was putting his seat at risk. Contrary to your characterization of him as a traitor, I see him as a principled legislator who voted his conscience rather than for expediency.
It is often difficult for individuals to understand the concept of being true to one’s conscience even when it runs counter to his personal interest. His politics are simpatico with the Republican party’s and he is being true to his principles by joining them.
