Well, judging by the conversations we’ve had here, I’d tend to agree with him. That’s anecdotal evidence, at best. Not sure what polls would say.

First of all , I believe that a committed gay couple should be as entitled to the financial , inheritance , etc. benefits of a married heterosexual couple .

I believe those who equate the civil rights issues of Black* America with the discrimination issues of gays , are woefully uninformed .

The discrimination against the blacks in the Twentieth Century was obscene .
At least Hitler admitted that he was discriminating against the Jews.

I did not view the entire interview because what he said in print , IMO , is correct.

His well-spoken words hit the nail right on the head. That is EXACTLY how I see this. I resent being called a bigot because I don’t jump on the “gay-is-A-OK” bandwagon with both feet. Not being pro gay marriage does not automatically make someone anti-gay. I will defend anyone who is attacked or discriminated against due to sexual orientation, but I will not endorse behavior I feel is against my faith, (Yes, that includes extramarital sex between man and woman. If someone’s going to do it, have at it you don’t need my approval or consent. If you ASK it, I’ll be honest with you about how I feel. Be tolerant enough to accept that.)

Hmmm. Let’s replace what you say with race:

His well-spoken words hit the nail right on the head. That is EXACTLY how I see this. I resent being called a bigot because I don’t jump on the “miscegenation” bandwagon with both feet. Not being pro-black does not automatically make someone anti-black. I will defend anyone who is attacked or discriminated against due to the color of their skin, but I will not endorse behavior I feel is against my faith, (Yes, that includes marital sex between blacks and whites. If someone’s going to do it, have at it you don’t need my approval or consent. If you ASK it, I’ll be honest with you about how I feel. Be tolerant enough to accept that.)

Personally, that doesn’t sound like the same thing. You’re asking us to be tolerant of your intolerance. Why should we?

Extramarital sex between anyone is a choice. Skin color is not. Neither is being gay. You don’t like gay sex? Don’t do it. But don’t discriminate against someone who does, and can’t help themselves. Unless you really think there’s sound scientific evidence that homosexuality is a choice, you’re discriminating by treating gays different than non-gays, because of something they have no control over. Gay rights is not about their right to have sex. It’s about their right to identify themselves as someone different than others. It’s sexual identity, not sexual acts that are being discriminated against.

So your personal intolerance is irrelevant. You don’t want to have gay sex? We don’t care. You want to deprive others of equal rights based on their sexual identity? Now we care. It’s that simple.
