Did Chris Rock fall victim to the 140 character assasin? On the 4th of July he tweeted the following “Happy white peoples independence day the slaves weren’t free but I’m sure they enjoyed fireworks.” Some people took offense to the tweet and others found it hilarious. Where do you fall?
Was Chris Rock’s 4th of July tweet funny?

Personally, I find it neither funny nor offensive. I find it to be true, for what it’s worth.
Chris Rock is a comedian.
His tweet was addressed to his followers (fans).
He is politely bashing the 1776 whites for their slavery attitude.
The whites were interested in separating from England.
They whites could have added ,
“By the way, slavery is an abomination and we shall have no part of that.”
But they did not.
I thought it was funny .
The word he should replace it so that last sentence reads:
I thought he was funny.
Chris Rock always tries to be funny, but what he is saying is truthful. As a White American I appreciate his humor and don’t get upset because he so often is right!
And I thought both he and it were funny. Chris Rock always cracks me up. The best humor has a lot of truth it in. That’s often why it’s so funny.
I think Chris Rock is very funny, but he knows limits. He never offends me. He does have a point.
At the time that the Declaration of Independence was signed there were also some Black Slave Owners along the Eastern Shores of the United States. However, and without going into the Black American History that many of “us” don’t really know, I feel that it is long past the time for Black America to take its head out of the slave box and begin to mentally strutt down mainstream America. In this 21st Century we need to also stop blaming the “White Man” for everything because the “White Man” hasn’t prevented any of us from learning how to read, write, learn math, physics, law, medicine, or any other profession. In addition, the White Man hasn’t prevented any of us from doing anything that we strive to do, and at some point in time ALL of us living in these United States of America will have to come to realize that whatever we do, we do together. So, I suppose, yes, in my opinion Chris Rock, whose work I really enjoy, should strive in the future to tell “us” to stop casting our buckets in the past– and sit at the table to eat the pie. I am extremely happy that my forefathers came to America by whatever means that they arrived because I wouldn’t want -in this 21st Century-to be living any place else–especially Africa.
