South Carolina Mom Jailed for cheering at High school Graduation…is this criminal behavior?

Graduation Days are a time of celebration but this season it seems celebrations have limits. This is the second story that I have seen this week that cheering has either landed the graduate or a guest in hot water. South Carolina mom Shannon Cooper was arrested for cheering at her daughter’s graduation. Yes, I said arrested. Why is this behavior being criminalized? Yesterday I wrote about a young man who is being forced to do community service because his guests cheered too loudly. High school graduation is an accomplishment. Schools celebrate graduating from pre-school, kindergarten and middle school, but while that is nice it is also a requirement. Children have to stay in school until they are 16, but not all children graduate from high school. I attended my son’s graduation a couple of weeks ago and there were families there that cheered very loudly and I must admit sometimes I said inwardly “alright already”, but never did I think they should be arrested. This is ridiculous and rather sad. No one should be cuffed and led away in handcuffs for cheering for her daughter’s accomplishment. Share your thoughts.

What if a white Senator cheered when a daughter was graduated ?

Thank you Jim. I do believe race is a factor in this excessive response to non-criminal behavior.

If Americans could see what we see from over here on the other side of the atlantic, they might perhaps be more than incensed by this ‘incident’.
Skin colour, I suspect, has nothing to do with it. Rather look at the empowerment and the levels of trust that you guys give to, and put in, people in uniform and see how that looks awfully like something akin to raving idiocy.
The level of ridiculousness attached to your compliance with your ‘security’ industry shouts; “stupid”.
That this incident took place is not surprising.
    At all.

I’ll bet she thinks twice the next time she’s at a commencement. That doesn’t mean I condone this, but I suspect that’s what it’s all about.

I can maybe understand being escorted out (because she did say that EVERYONE was told not to cheer) but NOT arrested! Over the top!
