JC Penney’s Features Lesbian Moms in Mother’s Day Catalog…is this an issue?

Is Penney’s reflecting the world as it exists or is this part of a bigger agenda? One Million Moms called for a boycott of Penney’s when they hired Ellen Degeneres as their spokesperson earlier this year. That boycott was unsuccessful. Is this situation different? Is this promoting a lifestyle or is this showcasing a loving family? Tell me what you think.

Arrrrghh! We’re big on the gay stuff this week, aren’t we? ;)

My problem with this million mom attitude is that it would have the world put blinders on and ignore reality. Face it. It’s fairly well accepted that about 10% of the human population identifies their sexual orientation as same-sex. So about 10% of the consumers out there are gay. Should retailers ignore them?

I really am becoming convinced that the most rabid anti-gay people are actually closeted gays, doing everything in their power to suppress their true sexual identities. They are attracted to bronze-age religious teaching simply because it allows them to justify their internal struggle to deny their sexuality. Think Ted Haggard, not to mention quite a few other prominent religious people that are discovered picking up men in airport bathrooms or hiring “rent boys” to travel with them and “carry their luggage”.

“Promoting a lifestyle”? Get serious. If that’s what they are doing, then all those Sears and Penney catalogs through the ages were promoting a heterosexual lifestyle. No one complained about that.

I get so sick of bigotry being justified by religious beliefs. You wonder why I’m an atheist? The sheer hypocrisy, and anti-Christian love that exudes from this attitude is palpable. Not to mention disgusting. We’re talking about our fellow human beings!

If Jesus actually existed, he would not be a member of the Million Moms.

And when did religion become so preoccupied by matters of the crotch?

If you’re a hater, it’s an issue. If you’re judgemental, it’s an issue. If you’re a Right Winger, it might be an issue. If you’re a judgemental, religious person–in spite of what the Bible says about “judge not, lest ye be judged”, it might be an issue.

Otherwise, no, it’s not an issue. They’re Moms. Why shouldn’t they be included?

    What would Jesus do?

Why does JC Penney feel it’s vital that we know this is a lesbian couple? Just put the pictures of people wearing clothing you sell in the magazine. For the vast majority of us, if someone does not make their sexual orientation an issue, neither will we. But when you throw it out there, begging the question, don’t be surprised when people react negatively. I think they provoked this intentionally for the publicity. Obviously we’re talking about it.
