The Word of the Day-Disappointed

I am so disappointed with our elected officials. How did we get here? We have two days to resolve something that has been discussed for weeks. So why would we believe that with their backs against the walls now all of a sudden the word compromise will again become relevant? The House passed a bill last night that they knew would be DOA once the Senate looked at it. Senator Mitch McConnell has 43 Republican senators already in place ready to shout no to anything that Senator Reid presents to them. McConnell is demanding that the president be involved in the discussions, but why? Isn’t this now something that has to be worked out by the legislative branch of the government? I talked to my retired uncle today. He worked for over 40 years, he served his county in the Korean War and now he sits wondering if he will receive his Social Security check. Fortunately, he does not live from check to check. He can last for a few months, and I hope that is enough, but from what I am looking at I can not help, but have my doubts. I could think of a lot of words to describe how I feel but I think disappointed describes it best.

Scott Brown Criticized for not Appearing in the “It Gets Better “Video

Who is bullying who? Senator Scott Brown decided not to join the Massachusetts delegation in the “It Gets Better” Video. He is being criticized for this decision, and some have said by not participating he is actually saying that bullying is all right. That is ridiculous. Dan Savage, the creator of the movement has been a vocal critic of the Republican party so it stands to reason that Brownwould not participate, but my question is aren’t they attempting to bully Brown? Doesn’t this go against the premise of “It Gets Better”? Tell me what you think.

Ten year old Ame Deal was killed by family members for stealing a popsicle

Some stories are horrible and this is one of them. Ame Deal was killed by her cousin because she took a popsicle without permission. She was stuffed in a trunk. Initially her family members said she had crawled inside while playing hide and go seek, but the police have determined that this child was subjected to unspeakable evil. What makes this story even sadder is neighbors suspected abuse but no one ever called the authorities. We all try to stay out of trouble and out of our neighbors business but when is it appropriate to get involved?  Tell me what you think.

Church Folks versus Christians, don’t be deceived they are not the same

I love Christians, but I can’t stand Church folks. Some will ask what’s the difference? Well here’s a list:

Church folks tear down other members.

Christians build up everyone they meet.

Church folks act like they are happy for your successes.

Christians really are actually happy for your success.

Church folks are extremely critical.

Christians will give correction, but they will always do it in love.

Church folks will give big so they can be viewed as big shots.

Christians cheerfully give what they have no matter how much it is.

Church folks worry and fret about what they wear to church.

Christians realize what is in the inside is more important than what is on the outside.

Church folks have a need to be seen doing good things.

Christians simply do good things

Church folks will come and see you when you are sick and tell everybody they did it.

Christians will come and see you, bring you a meal, and clean your house and not tell a soul.

Church folks say they love everybody.

Christians actually show love for everybody.

This is far from an inclusive list. Feel free to add to the list via the comment section.

Oprah Reruns will America watch them?

Do you miss Oprah? Well she is repackaging her old shows and running them on her network. Are we really that desperate for our daily dose of the Great O? Repackaged still spells rerun to me, but will you watch them?

Is the black middle class a thing of the past?

Unemployment has devestated the country, and we are seeing many in the black community who were once middle class now barely scraping by. In fact the black community is actually experiencing a depression. The link is to a very interesting article I read on the Fox Nation website. Tell me what you think.

Tea Party congressman Joe Walsh owes over 100K in back child support

Rep. Joe Walsh made a name for himself by calling the president a liar, but the Chicago Sun Times is reporting that the upright congressman owes over $100,000 in back child support. Some will say why are we talking about his personal business? Well, when you jump up and down and make a lot of noise like Walsh then you are going to be scrutinized. In the linked article his attorney said Walsh has the same kind of problems most men have with child support. What the heck does that mean? Pay your child support, and once you do that then maybe you can lecture us about the financial state of the country.

Pole Dancing classes for girls…is this a problem?

Chris Rock has two daughters and he once said his job is to keep his daughters off the pole. That is the stripper pole. A British club is offering pole dancing classes to girls and they even posted a picture of a 7 year old pole dancer on their Facebook page. Do you have a problem with this? Tell me what you think.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Injects Race into the Debt Ceiling Talks…does he have a point?

Today we watched some of the Congressman debate the debt ceiling bill that is soon to come to the House floor. We had the opportunity to hear from Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. He injected race into the conversation. Some will summarily dismiss him,  but think about it when have we ever heard this much conversation on this subject? I would not say that the fact that we have a black president is the only reason for the reluctance. I do believe that some Congressman who support the Speaker’s bill sincerely believe they are making the best decision for the people they represent, but I aslo believe race is a factor.
