Mark Halperin called the president a “dick”, what if it had been Glenn Beck?

Mark Halperin appears on Morning Joe quite frequently. This morning he said the president acted like a “dick” at his press conference yesterday. He has apologized and he has been suspended for his remark. So is that the end of it? His remark is being treated as a slip of the tongue and absent of real malice, but are we too quick to move on from this because of who said it? Let’s say it was Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck would we simply accept the apology and move on or would we be calling for his head. Do we have one ruler for conservatives and another for liberals? Tell me what you think.

Will President Obama lose the black vote if he supports gay marriage?

New York has approved gay marriage and the president is getting more pressure to also support it. The president says he supports civil unions, but he has not come out in support of gay marriage. Some have compared gay rights to civil rights and many blacks do not think the two issues can be compared. The black church also is opposed to gay marriage. Not all but it is safe to say the majority of black churches do not support gay marriage. So if the president came out in favor of it he might losing that conservative group. What do you think. Does he risk losing the black vote if he supports gay marriage?

Sean Gittens Served His Country, but he is unwelcome in one community

Sean Gittens is a veteran who suffered a debilitating stroke after he came home. He needs a new home that is handicap accessible. The non-profit group Home for Our Troops has volunteered to build him a home, but the Homeowners Association where the home was to built did not want it built there. They say the home would bring the property values down. What do you think is the HOA right or should they have allowed the construction because Gittens was a veteran? Tell me what you think.

Tracy Morgan needs to sit down and shut up if he wants to keep a job

Tracy Morgan recently finished his apology tour to the gay community, and now he will have to start another one.  “This time  Tracy talked about “retarded kids” and “cripples.”  The 30 Rock actor put his foot in his mouth this time while performing two hourlong shows on Saturday night at Caroline’s comedy club in New York, where he once again denied he was homophobic and claimed his father was  lead singer of the Village People. But during his routine, things once again went south for the comic when he began telling the crowd not to “mess with women who have retarded kids.” “Them young retarded males is strong,” he said. “They’re strong like chimps.” He then segued into a bit about hooking up with a girl he called “a cripple” with a dialysis machine and a prosthetic arm, while groans could reportedly be heard from the crowd. “Tracy Morgan should apologize immediately,” The Arc’s CEO, Peter Berns, told E! News. “This quote is far too offensive to be excused as comedy, and it is very hurtful to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.” So what do you think…should Morgan be fired from 30 Rock?

Valorie Burton answers the question, ‘Where Will You Go from Here?’

On Saturday I had the opportunity to hear a very inspiring and profound presentation from CNN contributor and life coach Valorie Burton. She spoke to about 200 women at my church. She specifically gave instrictions on how to move forward when life doesn’t go as planned. Her advice is tailored for everyone. In these difficult times so many people are losing their jobs, their homes and their peace of mind, and frankly too many people are simply giving up, but Burton told the crowd that there are two choices and they are to give up or to get up. She lays out a strategy in her newest book “Where Will You Go from Here?’ which is available at www.valorieburton.com or www.amazon.com. In it Burton details the 5 committments that propel every successful comeback, step-by-step guidance for restructuring your life, strategies to unearth the courage you need for any situation and practical exercises to become better, not bitter. This is a book that will help you jumpstart your comeback or simply help you go to the next level.

BET Awards…Why did I watch them?

Last night I watched the BET Awards. The entertainment is dominated by rap performances and as I watched I could not, but yearn for rap from back in the day. Don’t get me wrong I am no rap expert, but it definately does not take an expert to know if the lyrics are “same ole shit different day” you  are definately not dealing with poetry. Kevin Hart was the diminutive host and I say this because his opening performance featured a step performance featuring children who looked to be between 9-11, and one had to wonder did they have to use children because adults would have towered over Hart. The performance was like watching the Lilliputians of the land of Oz. The night was full of over the top performances, and over the top fashion. I have linked to an article from The Root which features a detailed account of last night’s award show. http://www.theroot.com/views/bet-awards
