Is Bishop Eddie Long’s church on the verge of collapse?

Last week Bishop Eddie Long settled with the four young men that accused him of sexual misconduct. None of the parties will speak on the facts, but it seems the members of his church are finding new places to worship, and one of his high profile members stepped down this Sunday. Rev. Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., left the church on Sunday. We will never know why but King is not the only one leaving the megachurch. Follow the link to a very interesting article on the state of New Birth.

Naomi Campbell urges a boycott of Cadbury over “racist” ad

“Supermodel and über-diva Naomi Campbell is reportedly threatening to sue chocolate giant Cadbury over a new advertising campaign. According to The Independent, the 41-year-old is considering “every option available” following the release of the Bliss bar ad, which features the tagline: “Move over Naomi, there’s a new diva in town.” Campbell is reportedly furious over the campaign, believing that Cadbury used her name to play on racial connotations.
In a statement, Naomi said: “I am shocked. It’s upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people. “I do not find any humour in this. It is insulting and hurtful.” Campaign group Operation Black Vote are supporting Campbell over the ad and have urged a boycott on Cadbury products. Responding to the claims, a spokesperson for the company said: “[The advert is] a light-hearted take on the social pretensions of Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss… We would never produce any type of marketing we felt might cause any offence to any section of society.” The company say the ad is “no longer in circulation” and insists it has no plans to run the campaign again. (Source aol/uk) Is this a racist ad concept? Tell me what you think.

Sarah Palin Loves to Keep Everybody Guessing

Should we be playing Hail to the Chief? Sarah Palin knows how to work a crowd and she knows how to work the media. She is touring the country and she has not said that she is running for anything, but the media wait patiently watching her every move. Today Sen. John McCain said she could beat President Obama if she chose to run, and his word is law since he once believed he could beat President Obama. At this point no one knows the plans of the moose eating Alaskan. She will let us know when she is good and ready, but in the mean time the media will follow her like a lap dog while she continues to bask in the unabashed spotlight.

Memorial Day 2011-Remember a Vet today

I try to write a post daily, and there are those that agree with me and those that don’t, but today I want to speak to you as a proud American. I love this country. I know that it is not perfect, but we strive daily to make it a more perfect union. Today I want to take the time to reflect on those who have served this country and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. My dad served in World War II, my uncle served in the Korean War, my first cousin served in Viet Nam and in a few weeks one of my nephews will be deployed to Iraq. All of my relatives served proudly and all of them were blessed to return home in tact. For that I am forever grateful, but on Memorial Day we think of those who went to places far from home and lost their lives perserving our freedom. Today is not a day to talk about the legitimacy of war. Put the soapbox aside today and just honor the ones we lost. So on this day I thank those who gave their all for all of us and I pray for those who lost a loved one. Take a minute to just remember their sacrifice.

Psychology Today apologizes for article calling black women unattractive

It is hard out here for a black woman. There is a new movie called Dark Girls that has a group of dark sisters lamenting their skin color. A couple of years ago Chris Rock had a movie called Good Hair which chronicled our ongoing struggles with our hair, and earlier this month Psychology Today published an article that basically declared black women as unattractive and the writer claimed he had the science to back his claims up. Well now the magazine is backing away from the article and the writer and they have issued an apology. How nice but what would have been nicer is not to have published the post at all. http://www.theatlanticwire.com/technology/2011/05/psychology-today-apologizes-black-women-less-attractive-article/38261/

Scottie Pippen needs to spit out the sour grapes…MJ was the best basketball player ever

I will start this post by saying I loved Michael Jordan during his playing days. He had a passion for the game that you rarely see. When he retired he had 6 championship rings, and he brought teammate Scottie Pippen along on the journey. So it was disheartening to hear his former teammate trash him this morning. On ESPN this morning Pippen said the following “Michael Jordan’s probably the greatest scorer to ever play in the game, but I may go as far as to say that LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game because he’s so potent offensively,” Pippen said. “Not only can he score at will but he keeps everybody involved and you have to be on your Ps and Qs on defense because no guy on the court isn’t a threat to score when (he’s) is out there. But not only that but LeBron James will dominate the game offensively, but he’s also doing it on the defensive end and that makes him the complete package.” You have to wonder did he actually hear himself. He is saying that James who is currently ringless is better than MJ who has 6 rings. Really Scottie, you should know better.

Who is Kirk Franklin?

This season I did not watch American Idol, but one of my good friends watched it and gave me a recap the following day.  She persuaded me to watch the finale and I was glad to see gospel superstar Kirk Franklin singing with finalist Jacob Lusk. They were singing Franklin’s hit single “Smile.”  The next day my friend said that she was reading an article on the Idol Vote for the Worst site and as the site reviewed the finale they named all the superstars that performed but they had no idea who Kirk Franklin was. They refered to him as a “midget Ru Paul lookalike.”  Most people in the black community know who Kirk Franklin is. he has actually appeared on Oprah, but when taken out of the confines of the gospel experience he is viewed as an unknown by many. How could someone be regarded as famous in the black community and a nobody in the wider community? I often say “we have to know them, they don’t have to know us”, and this proves my point.
