Romney Wants to “Hang Misery Index” on President Obama’s neck

Nothing good comes from using the word hang when referencing a black man. Mitt Romney said he wanted to “hang a misery index” around the president’s neck. He caught himself and assured the crowd he was using hang in the metaphorical sense. Watch the video and tell me what you think.

I think its a figure of speech. I heard someone use it before – my ex-wife, actually. Obviously, he is not being racist, but his word choice could have been better. Who advices these candidates? Sometimes, I can’t believe professionals get paid to guide these folks and do such a poor job of advising.

When they wanted to “hang” the Nobel Prize around the president’s neck, did anybody detect racial overtones? No. Romney gave suitable preface to his comments that nobody should infer racist overtone. If he’s said something about “lynching” him with it, then you’d have a point. Next thing we know someone will say Obama is “in the dark” about an issue, or that he signed off on some military “black ops” and they’ll be marching in the streets.

First of all I did not hear anyone say let’s hang the Nobel prize on his neck. The post does not call Romney a racist, but even he acknowledged he had misspoke. Some words are politically charged and hanging in reference to a black man falls into that category. To say someone is in the dark is an accepted phrase that no one would feel discomfort in hearing but Rromney did the right thing when he walked it back.
